p.1 #1 · Bird food

Took this series at Gluepot, in South Australia recently. I heard them from my campsite, and the light was just right for a change.

Juvenile Grey Butcherbird - there were 3, but the others mostly hid in the shade.

I thought that was it, then the parent turned up for feeding. I was pretty pleased at this point.

I followed the parent back to where it was getting the meal from. I never knew what they ate till now. Less fortunate Butcherbirds from the look of it. Quite possibly the younger ones sibling.

Later it all got too much, and the young one fell asleep. This was quite amusing, wish I'd had a video camera.

All taken with Nikon D70s & 300 f4

Thanks for looking

Kevin

Awll, amazing. What find! Are they rare there? We don't have anything like the Butcherbird here! I know what you mean, the 5 D is very tempting because of the video on it. ;~)

Congratulations Kevin,

maybe a D90 is in your future. I hear it has video in it.

Nice series & lets hope it's a sparrow it's eating & not a sibling...

Thanks. I thought about a D90 last week, for about 2 seconds while I was trying out a D300. The D300 won. Now to talk the wife into that 600 f4....

There is no water where the pics were taken, and hence no sparrows. There are an awful lot of small brown birds in the Australian bush so it could be anything really. I must have a mean streak - I like seeing the harsher side of nature.

Cheers

Kevin
