p.1 #1 · Flash Stand with Wheels? (Casters! that's the word!)
Does anybody know of a flash stand that has wheels? Something I can easily roll around in a wedding reception to use a flash for rim light. Doesn't have to be studio quality heavy duty, it will only carry a simple flash, no umbrellas or diffuse boxes.
if anybody has any experience or found a DIY work around let me know... otherwise I might have to make one myself. hahah.

I think i read this on here, someone was using a converted IV drip stand from the hospital (absolutely no idea how you go about getting hold of one though.)

the problem with most lightstands with casters is that the leg spread is too large. I assume if you are wanting a quick movement item, having the leg triangle with ~4 foot sides to hold up a small flash would be too encumbering to use. You need something that has a small heavy base to give it stability and not take up to much space for maneuverability.
There was a company that had web released a similar thing to what you are looking for, but don't think they ever shipped (or if they did it was in very low quantities.

woo, that looks perfect. Hmm... I think I'm going to stop by Home Depot and see if I can make my own. I think I can come up with something for less than $163 =)
Sturdy, heavy, small footprint base with large casters with extending pole with a screw (or better yet a cold shoe) at the end, maybe some soldering done... shouldn't be that hard to make...

If I was DIY'ing it I would find a salvage office chair, disassemble down to the base and use a painting extension pole with a cold shoe screwed to the top...
It's really not designed for use as a light stand so its necessary to cut off the U shaped plastic bag holder and file or sand it as shown below so the umbrella bracket can fit over it:
The name "PitchIt" comes from the fact its intended to be thrown out after use. It works quite well - very small footprint, but very stable because it have five legs. I found mine at a thift store for $5, but also available at the link SFzip posted.
The more traditional style IV stands with cast steel bases are even more stable, but they don't fold and would be more difficult to transport.
BTW - I don't recommend the cold shoe shown in the photo above (made by Stroboframe). With Canon flash the lock is actually the round retractable pin, not friction, and third-party shoes lack the matching hole. So I now just thread the stand which comes with the flash onto the lightstand stud. It isn't pretty, but I don't worry about the flash slipping off.
