yessir, love the detail that can be had on overcast days.....these are nice.
I'll be out tomorrow with 50D and the MkIIN both....but it's cold and supposed to be mostly sunny.
Well Tim, I don't find them exciting but I will say I would be real proud of the details and subtle color range of #2. I am particularly impressed with the fine representation of the bone colored beak and the slight variations in it. I am thinking it is as accurate as it could get. Almost appears as a slightly translucent bone-white with shades of charcoal and tints of yellow and of course a great red-eye
Bravo, Tim. The good control of the exposure has allowed some fine, sharp detail in these. And that is what portrait shots are (almost) all about. The first shot is my fave.

Unbelievable detail there Tim! dude you shot these at 1/200s handheld, no IS at 400mm you're a human tripod...or a$$pod when you're yakin'
Interesting bump they have on their forehead! European coots don't have it must be an american thingy
Great shooting on these buddy..i'll go w # 2 as fav.
Wow Tim. Never knew Coots had so much interesting detail. There was a flock of them on the lake here last weekend, must have been a hundred or more together, never saw anything like it before as they are so territorial. Will be looking at them differently next time I go out.

Thanks for the kind words Karl. I'm glad you noticed the beak, too often with photos of these beaks get blown out, black bird white beak, bound to happen. These guys may be common but they do have a beauty that most of us miss.
Next time I'll try to post something exciting, maybe Nello in a bubble with some hot models!!

Thanks Socrate! I was really trying to cover the range of gray on that first one. Sometimes clouds and fog pay off.

True that Tim, gotta make the most of the days we get to shoot...

Nice looking sparrows, Tim. I noticed that your shutter speeds were running about the same as I was shooting them last weekend. Handheld?

Sparrows? Oh man, I thought I finally got some good shots of condors, bummer
Yes Zoomsir, hand held on dry land. Thanks!!
