I only had a very few minutes to try out my new 50D this morning--absolutely grey crappy light. The images are all high ISO 1600 heavy crops with the 50D 300/2.8 + 2X tc
I am impressed at the detail that can be resolved. Definitely had to pp with noise reduction. But--- for the price of the camera I think it is good.

Another 50D shooter! Bonnie first shot looks good, nice open shadows detail, looks sharp. I think from what I have seen you will quickly be right up to speed with this body, Goldeneye looks like it held up well for the conditions and crop and TC
Have fun, glad I will get to see the results.

2 looks VERY good all things considered. I'm looking forward to see what you can do on a nice day. Geez today is gorgeous, that must mean that you are working
Nice photos. You did well with the high ISO. Incase you're interested, the goldeneye is a barrows, not a common. They have the teardrop shaped white patch and purple sheen to their head feathers... as opposed to a more round cheek patch and a green sheen found in the commons.

Jamie, you are so right--I never even really looked.
When I first saw the goldeneyes---with my eyes, I just assumed they were common--and never gave it another thought. Old age is setting in! Thanks for correcting me.
the #1 and 2 cormies are saweeeeet Bonnie. That faded ball/buoy is the perfect pastel element and really works super in these images.
I going to play with my new 50D tomorrow. A friend spotted a bald eagle by a local lake.
