Anybody have any experience with this old, Canon push-pull zoom on a high rez camera?

I have the 100-300/5.6L, and it's a fantastic lens on 5D and 20D, I haven't used it yet on 40D. The 50-200/3.5-4.5L has a significantly better reputation, and they've been quite rare over the past year or so.
