Excellent colorful series Nello Now I know why Canon is keeping 40D in current production and not updating the 100-400L lens it is ALL YOUR FAULT

Looks like you are enjoying yourself Nello and sure is a pleasure to view. Beautiful one of the peacock and the parrot. There are a lot of those cormorants and other migratory birds on the Geneva lakethese days but its hardly possible to get within an ass's roar of them they are so nervous. When I was on the French side of the lake at the weekend I came across hunters staked out by the side of the lake so I suppose its not suprising.
Keep it up

Ooooh that hurt good one Zoomy

The Mallard flap is a fine shot but the space on the right (crop) is a little excessive (crop) but not too bad considering the original comp (crop) didn't leave you (crop) much room (crop) to work with.
#5, well, we expect nothing less from you
Like that proud P'cock you captured in #1, brilliant color and sharpness.
Not sure the the parrot like burd qualifies for a JB shot. It's not obscured by branches but I am sure he would appreciate the tribute
Zm

On the mallard I tried a vertical crop too but the overall comp. would be even tighter w a 2:3 format
Peacocks at the park are gettin' more & more cooperative these days. Long way from a few months ago when I couldn't get really close. Now I can get within 10-12 feet which really helped w details
Thx for stopping by!

Yep click on page 2...nothing worth seeing here
Mallard had enough of gas bubbles
Can't remember what species of parrot was #7

Is this a joke? Is the good stuff going to show up on page 2
Peacock sure is a pretty bird, wonderfully blue.
I think 3 is fanning away the result of 5
7 Love the color, the soft corral pink, very nice.
Great set Nello, nice variety, well executed.

Nello, these are so good, I feel the need to dust off my 100-400. And just think, you'll get better and better the more you use it.

yeah I was thinkin to myself: "better not play w saturation on #1 or the monitor will start bleeding "
Tried a 2:3 vertical crop on #3 but it looked too tight on all edges to me
As you noticed the shots w more pleasing bgs are the ones were the burds were kind enough and cooperative so I could get closer I'm not bating them w bread though
Karl Witt wrote:
Hello Nello
I am surprised you didn't go for a little more color in that first one, I personally would have saturated the 'greens' a little more I like it, it's your style, did good bringing down the hot highlights, real nice deep colors on this beauty.
Did ZOOM say something about comp on #2, can I mention comp on #3 Vertical, vertical IMO I do like the feathering textures in #7 and that sure looks like a very accurate color rendering too.
Super BG's on #1 and #4 Nello, clean and pleasing
Karl.......

What year of productions is yours? mine is a 2008. Seems like older models are not as sharp
Maybe you should send it to Canon for a calibration...see if it comes back better

Nello, that Mexican Duck is very well done indeed.
The parrot is also well rendered although I am not so much into taxidermy photography. I believe when family pets die they deserve a proper burial.
That zoom also looks good on you. Please note, I did not mean nor write "That Zoom....".

Thx Harsha I really like #3 too I was at the park shooting mallards and a guy showed up next to me w a XSi + 18-55mm IS. He got the same shot only that the duck was so small I felt bad for him since he didn't have a longer lens and offered to let him shoot a few shots w my 1-400 IS L He was thrilled

Thx Ray! appreciate it That cockatoo is a free bird. Along w his mate they were flying around from tree to tree in this bird sanctuary Once in a while they come down to feed on what the rangers put out for them. same park and the area around it (even parking lots) has a colony of Monk parakeets too. At least a few hundreds of them..nests everywhere very noisy and an unusual sight for northern Italy

Mexican duck?
The parrot is a live & free bird even if it looks like a stuffed bird in this pic
