I had a chance to head out in the yak for a couple of hours before the light faded. It was a strange day out there, for the most part the birds were terrified of me in the yak. I could only get close to a few
I was able to get close to a GBH that was just at minimum focus above me. There I was directly below this guy, looking through the lens. It was getting a bit scary, I got the picture in my head of him attacking me laying on my back in the yak, not pretty
C&C freely, I realize the two gbh crops may draw ire
Well Tim, looks like you had to battle some low light but details held up well @ ISO. #1.....he looks villainous Tight crop looks pretty good, don't like the BG intrusion but like the big eye It must take something really special to make these work well
Now #4, sort of an alien stare or a wanna be owl, different..... cute shot
You have redeemed yourself and then some on #5 Floating Wood Yep that one is sweeeeeeet! A wonderful job separating the darker graduations along the back in those deep blues. Great max black and no blocked shadows, you did a great job PP on this one my friend, real nice
#6 sweet, I like the similar color hues in the water, as we have always talked the dilema on reflections is 'how much' to reflect, In this one I am thinking still a little less as there seems to be a bit too many repeats toward the bottom of the frame....nit #7 crop held great detail Tim, just a bit of noise in the BG but solid looking sir
on #4... So did you get crapped on at least... I wana see the crap now.... Oh wait! we did Nice series Sir Timmathy... Just curious what were the temps out?
My only nit would be the last two look off on the WB, tad on the blue side on my end.

Karl, the tight crops, well they are really difficult to get right. I never had a great feel for this one, tried many different crops and settled on this. Ask Chad how hard this is
4 Cute? I certainly didn't expect that comment for that shot
5 Thanks, I almost deleted this one on the first go around I do like it now
6 Oh, the big reflection, I fought with that. I originally wasn't going to do it, I usually don't but I put it in to see what ya'll thought.
7 The same shot as 6, completely different PP.
Thanks so much buddy

I am impressed by the iso capabilities of the camera but more impressed by the photographer. Excellent shots Tim.

That is a 3rd degree encounter right there Tim I wouldn't be too confortable in that position
That is sick detail there distance to subject does make a differences
I like the last wood duck crop...very nice!
As Chad said, #6 does indeed look a bit on the blue side but barely noticeable!
These are very nice, Tim. You got some sharp detail. Too bad you couldn't get any closer. Except for # 5, with the centered subject, the rest of the images are very nicely composed, and colors are pleasing. 1, 3 and 7 my favorites.

Tim--The woodies are beautiful, but man!, to get that close to a GBH, even in a yak, is one slick piece of work. Take a bow!
Mitch
Thanks Mitch, that is very kind of you. It was pretty cool to be that close.

Those did get a tad scary....
Neat series

P.S. I'm not taking the Sigmonster yaking no matter what you say when we come up. End of story.
Thanks Lil! I'll go were no man has gone before! Okay you won't need the Sigmonster, we'll get so close you can use a 50!!

Ok, you got me beat, Tim. I've sat down beside GBH before but I've never yaked below them like this. Were you wearing a raincoat
Floating Wood is my fav because it's a purdy burdy and love them colorful reflections.
Zm
Ah Ken, I don't think I will ever have you beat, just different. Raincoat, thought about it, trust me! I've seen what comes out of these guys and it wouldn't be funny!! Thanks for the kind words on the wood. The are so pretty to look at.

Too funny, see above (Zoom). Temps, that day was unseasonably warm, mid 50's, about 10 above normal for the time of year.
Blue, hmm, must be the WB, even though the last two are the same photo they are both processed completely different. Thanks for noting that.

All very nice Tim. I don't know what more you could ask of the 50D - especially in the hands of someone who knows how to use it ~ Ron
