p.1 #1 · Bird action

Hi,

I am not much of a bird photographer, but I am interested in practicing capturing action. Photos below are from a series from the Sepulveda Basin in Los Angeles. The challenges are similar to shooting liver performances, that is not much control. C&C welcome. Thanks.

Good shots, Paul. The second one is totally hilarious the way that chicken runs on water .

Paul,

you found gulls at Sepulveda Basin

I've not ever seen one there & I go all the time....

The second one is amusing with the coot running on water....

Congratulations & maybe one day we'll meet there.

Do I see that chicken carrying an egg in her beak ?
Well, if so, I got a picture of the seagull after he took the egg from the chicken.

Hi Paul, sounds like you are from an area that has much to offer and almost always good light, that is helpful I think by what I see here you will do fine Just like live performances have an eye for the 'good side of the light' and enjoy the beauty or the action. I rather like your second shot

Brenton,

Thanks. All is not peaceful in bird land.

Tim,

Thanks. Decided to do B&W because there is not much color to the birds in this photo. But, will take another look.

Lil,

I guess it was slow along the coast. The Basin is some distance and a mountain range away from the beach. No idea of how they got there.

I am in that area about three times a month, but mainly to jog around the park.

Thanks for the comments. I understand that there are some regular shooters at the Basin. So far, met two. Perhaps we will have the opportunity to meet there.

Garen,

Thanks. I am surprise by the water splashes, something that I only notice while processing the shot. The bird was traveling very fast given the shape of all three splashes.

Hi Paul,

I like both shots. #2 is really cool, but I like #1 as well - nice light, pose, action and crisp water.

JJBud,

Thanks. I like the early morning and late afternoon light. The shots were during the late afternoon.

Kirk,

Thanks. Your comments are greatly appreciated. Will have to find some time between work and holiday activities to go back out.
