Ken

As usual, incredibly enjoyable and educational (hey- that Coot does have legs--) series with what I would consider an odd setup but very effective. Were you handholding these?

Nice series, Ken. The bald eagle is quite outstanding You did especially well with the whites in the head - so easy to over expose. Oops, maybe that's a juvie bald eagle in which case...never mind.

Stickied boids are nice, especially the Dumpling Hummie, the Balde Canadian Eagle is hilarious, but the GBH-full-frame-got-close simply rocks. I like to see when someone don't take that "blue" in the boid's name too literally.

I do believe that is the 1st time I have shot a hummer in that pose before. They usully don't stick around that long with they are just hanging on. The GBH is a local that is quite accustomed to having a lens stuck in it's face and doesn't mind sitting for a few glamor shots

Awesome shots! Its posts like this that really make me want to get the 400 5.6. Seems like a great lens! Can't afford the 2.8 just yet. Nicely done tho!

Thanks Ernie. You'll read a lot of people on the gear forum lamenting the lack of IS on the 400 5.6 but those of us who actually own and use one never seem to miss it. It is almost universally accepted as one of the best long L glass lenses that Canon has ever produced.

Very nice set, Ken. I particularly like the lighting, color and detail in 4 and 5. They are all pleasing though. Well... except for that big footed bird
Socrate

Hi Socrate,

I would have prefered a better BG for the Phoebe shots but this one wasn't cooperating and had to go for the blue skies in that rear. Can't have everthing I suppose Soory to hear you don't like the big footed ducks. They are going to be really upset when they hear about this

Thanks Mike - you should know by now that my posts are always educational
The 400 5.6 is great lens even hand held and with a TC. I wasn't having much luck finding any big birds so stuck on the TC when I came across the little one. They were just little dots in the center of the frame otherwise. Should have taken the 500 but I was feeling lazy

Thanks Herb. I don't get many opportunities to shoot the little one but had a good dose of the last saturday and took advantage while I could.

Thanks Tom, I've always been kind of partial to the Say's Phoebe. Not only good colors on them but they are also active and fun to watch as they hunt for flying bugs.

The BE shots were taken with humor in mind Not sure what's up with the weather but I thing that the seasons might have something to do with it. Supposed to be sunny this coming Saturday so take advantage of it while you can

Another excellent series Ken.
You always do a great job of positioning yourself for the best light angle which is so important.

Love the GBH FF, super sharp detail, great light... really pops against the dark BG.
All the little burdies are very well done.
Still laughing about your BE and Golden Nello... You're killing me man...

Thanks Kirk-dude Providing comic relief is my job around here otherwise the Ornophiles would take over with their checklists and scientific sounding burd names and stuff
