p.1 #1 · Need immediate help...!!!

I need some help here from my fellow FM'ers.
I do wedding and school events & dances mostly. I have an opportunity to do a corporate awards event in early 2009. The VP says it's 150 couples and some big wigs from the head office. They want couple shots with the attendees and the honchos. Last year I did 150 senior grad nite 8x10's for $9.00 a piece. This was a One-Shot step on the mark run and gun before the graduation. I imagine this will be very similar. The school price was a return for prior business and good pr with the school. I usually charge $100/hr plus prints, 8x10's are $15 ea. No on-site printing is required just fast turn around 3-4days. This is the same timetable for the gradnite pics so no big deal there. Is this price too low or ballpark

I would not expect significant individual sales from a corporate awards event. If possible, I would try and get paid a flat rate paid by the company or at least some guarantee that the company will buy pictures.

I've had to do a couple events like this for clients.
In my experience it worked out better to give them a total flat rate price for the night, covering a set maximum of prints. This worked better because on the first one I did, 1/2 the couples were drunk and didn't want pics. No shot, no print, no cash.

If you are staying with your pricing model, offer candids during the pre-dinner reception, its a good way to add a billable hour, and increase print sales.

As far a price goes, I always see these events as a good chance to network with the execs that dole out the commercial work I do for them. I don't do them for clients I don't already have a relationship with.

I agree with Sigma.....$500-$1000 dollars for the event and they get large JPGs to use for non-commercial use. Commercial use would be negotiated when needed.

Yup - believe it. I just turned down a corporate event with an estimated attendance of 2,500 people because they wanted it with no expense on their part and printing on location - no web sales. What happens is everyone gets seated for the initial corporate posturing (at assigned seating), wait for their food if served, otherwise a mad rush to get in line. Then the eating/drinking and finally the "free" time. So you really only have a couple of hours to work assuming anyone has shown interest and has brought cash. Nahhhhh - too iffy for me and from past experience not a good bet. Now events where clothes are part of the function such as a prestigious social event or a military banquet - heck yeah! people want to get their photos at those.

Ok, just got off the phone with the Head Honcho here. It's a two day event with photography to be done the first day in a two hour window before the event 150-225 couples. They want 5x7 prints in folders to be delivered the next day before the event closes at 4:30 to distribute the prints. They sent me a copy of the logo/text for possible inclusion on the photo. I don't like it kind of gawdy so I'm going to suggest they don't use it maybe just some discreet text if necessary.
I'm thinking about $1,500-1,600 for this part of the event

They also wanted a quote for some pictures during the awards part of the event we're talking another couple of hours here.
All said and done I'm thinking about $1800 for everthing

Yep fell for one of those deals before when I first started, it was about 250 people though. They said it would give me some exposure. Being a former combat Marine I should have known you can DIE from exposure . Everyone wanted pics if they were free, I think I made $90.00 in four hours. Never again, Show Me The Money...!!!
