I am not a wedding photographer but I love this forum. There is so much love not only between the couples but among the photographers as well. I always visit this forum to see what trends are there, or what's new in Wedding photography and I also look for inspirations for my images.
I started being serious with photography about 2-3 years ago and I am currently studying photography. I would love to have a career in photography whether it be wedding, commercial as in products, fashion, etc. I just have a feeling that I might be a bit late and that younger photographers will be preferred when considering for work. I hope this is not the case and that quality of work is what matters.
If your good then your good. Age matters little. Not sure how old yervant is and how young Jesh is but both harness some serious photo skill and are in high demand. God speed to ya Barok
Age matters not to talent, but in some people's eyes is shown as inexperience.
My main gig is working with musicians. I'm 24, and more times than not mistaken for a concert goer who snuck in a d300, bag, tripod, flash, etc...I've seen similar faces at weddings by guests. "Who's this kid? where's the main photographer?"
There's some talented talented people here. The level of knowledge flowing freely around these forums is immense, and a very humbling experience on how much further you could push yourself into greatness.
Dennis and I are older. I'm probably one of the oldest in the forum. I usually tell brides when they are in front of us that we are their parent's age and that most people don't even notice that we are the photographers. We just blend into the crowd and get everything we need without being noticed. Y
I'm 45, bald and overweight... and have been booking pretty well. I think your work and personality speaks in most cases. I may have lost some bookings because of the physical realities, but I actually thought it would be worse when I started out this year. Don’t prejudge your potential success without giving it a try!
i'm 23. i have only been shooting for around 2 years and though i don't have people knocking down my door for gigs, like some photogs on here are blessed to have, i have a steady inquiry and good return for booking.
is it my age? no, probably not. in fact, i can empathize with sergio that some people (especially parents of couples) ask with a wary tone, "so HOW long have you been shooting on your own?". do i think some couples have gone another way because of it? - mmm, maybe.
so age, i think matters a little to some. but i agree with realmstalker as well. that some people equate it to inexperience.
i have seen the age thing work opposite as well. a photographer who has been in the business for 25+ years, has no idea what he is doing, and yet people trust him simply because of his age and experience over the years.
so, just jump in there. listen to what others have to offer. experiment. don't be scared to try something new, admit you're wrong, or ask for advice. be confident. be humble. and share your life with those who allow you to be a part of theirs. good luck.
