p.1 #1 · Distagon 18/4 and 5D Mk2???

There appear to be issues with the mirror hitting the lens on the 5D but not on a 1Ds Mk 3.

Does anybody know if the mirror will hit the lens on a 5D Mk2. I hope to have one in my grubby little mitts inside a few weeks and really want to pull the trigger on the 18/4 if it will clear.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Likely, the 5DmII apparently uses the same mirror as the 5D.

Although the 5D didn't always use the same mirror assembly. So we don't know yet. It's unlikely Canon did us alt users any favors with the mark II, however.

Believe the MM version is almost guaranteed to hit the mirror on a 5D, The AE version will most likely clear.

The mirror box of the classic 5D varies quite a bit in size and therefore clearance of selected lenses does the same. I remembered vividly the picture of a scrapped rear element of an 18mm Distagon posted here 3-4 years back. I don't even know whose lens that was... but the picture keeps haunting me . If it clears one camera, it doesn't necessarily mean it will clear all 5Ds. I am not even sure where we stand on the 5D MarkII.
