Hello--since some of you guys are so much more experienced than I, even intimidatingly so to be honest, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I can adapt a Pentacon 135mm 2.8 lens for EOS. I believe I can because I saw some photos online someone had taken with it on an EOS body, but I don't know what kind of adapter to use. I found this lens today at the flea market for the whopping price of $3, and when I examined it at home it looks like it might be good, and I would like to give it a try. When I adapted some old Contax lenses I was able to just order a cheap adapter from Adorama, but this seems trickier since the proper adapter, if it exists, is not so obvious to me. The second photo shows the lens original "Pentacon 6" medium format mount (same as Exacta 66, Kiev 6, Kiev 60, and Zenit 80), and the adapter attached to it in the first photo looks like a Pentacon 6 to M42 adapter. You can pick up a generic M42 to EOS adapter on eBay for about $30. Dec 01, 2008 at 12:23 PM

georgweb Offline Image Upload: Off p.1 #5 · Please, how do I adapt a Pentacon 135mm? Pretty please? Congrats Chococat, you got the 15-blade preset 'bokeh monster' in f/32 version, yeah! The detachable ring is no P6 adapter (trust me :-). Just use the M42 setup like in your first picture with an adapter M42>EOS, like Ed Sawyer suggested. The adapter you have linked seems a bit overpriced to me, especially since it has no flange inside on the back to push aperture pins down. This comes in handy when you have M42 'auto'-lenses which lack an A-M switch, like the cheap but recommendable Helios 44M*. In this case here it don't matter cause it is preset aperture, no pin at all. In case you're not shure how to work the aperture, push/pull and turn the aperture ring to change aperture preset setting and turn left/right to open/close. I have read somewhere (trust me :-) that this ring of the 135 preset Pentacon here (a.k.a. Meyer Orestor) is exactly the same like on the M42 200 preset version. And on Captain Jacks Exakta pages there is one of those 200 in Exakta mount which seem to have the same screwring plus mount-ring with Exacta-mount. So, if you have one of those rings you could at least grab the 200 version with no ring at all and screw your ring on and bingo.And if you have a Nikon camera you could quite easily convert these lenses with infinity. Ironic, the lens looked on the outside like it had been run over by a truck, but when I looked through it the glass was very, very clean, just a really pristine image looking through it, and three dollars is not much to gamble. I went ahead and ordered the adapter from Adorama--yeah, it was overpriced there, BUT they give you and option for free shipping, with some of the other companies I found online who were very cheap you wound up having to pay for shipping from Hong Kong so the savings was not quite so much as it originally appeared. Anyway, thanks again, I look forward to giving this old lens a try. I don't know about the rest of the USA, but out here in California there are a lot of very cheap, junk flea markets and there is just all kinds of old camera gear, especially lenses, sitting around for next to nothing--it's sad, but very few people want this stuff nowadays. There are 2 different adaptors are available, M42 and Exacta. If you are not capturing high contrast subject (with light/white color in that contrast), this is really good lens..
