All I saw was ads for buying presently available lenses.

The big announcement is apparently not the rumoured MX system, it's the 24.5MP D3x. the leak is pretty solid (Nikon's in-house magazine showed up in Europe early, with the basics of the new body).

I wonder, if the new announcement really is for the D3x and it's 24.5MP sensor, how this may impact Nikon owners who just forked over $5k for the D3 not so long ago. Hopefully this will bring down the price of the D700 and I will be able to get one and learn to live with just 12MP.

It's turning out to be the clash of the titans here - First Canon, then Sony, now Nikon.... everyone'd playing catch-me-if-you-can...... does it stop once we hit the 24MP ceiling or should one be looking forward to a 50MP full frame sensor in 4 years

oh...must have missed that...see what happens when you're busy taking pictures!

no new extra large lenses ripe for adaptation then...just an extra pixel body for that nikon wide zoom people keep talking about...

as this is the alternative board perhaps we can do a comparison between similar lenses available on the 2 bodies...to see which is the best alternative....or perhaps is still has to be a canon body as you can mix and match to get the best of all worlds?

I'll start with the shift options:

nikons new 24 /45 and 85PC's + mirex option mamiya / zoerk pentax or canons 24 / 45 / 90 tse + contax 35, olympus 24 and 35 + mirex and zoerk options...mmm

Don't expect a drop in D700 price for a while, it recently dropped. And Nikon has dropped the D3 price while the D3x is likely to come in at a fair margin over the D3's pricing (although most likely still cheaper than a 1Ds).

And Nikon's in-house mag in Europe spilled the beans early (started showing up on peoples doorsteps on friday, with a monday announcement).

50MP (for 24x36mm format) in 4 years sounds like a good bet to me. 24MP doesn't exhaust the capabilities of the best lenses.
