That is how "real" film/video cameras (not camcorders) work too. You manually focus them... Movie makers do not use autofocus.
Having said that, as I understand it, it will continuously AF when shooting video, but is using contrast which can be slow.
Me personally, I am pleased to be able to use video out to a monitor, and manually focus, rack focus, etc... I am a former video maker and gave it up quite some time ago. This is the first camera that has gotten me interested in shooting it again.
Full Frame 35mm with HQ optics, 1080P and high bit rates... Super feature set.
