I'm in the process of purchasing my first DSLR. I'm sold on the Canon 40D and would like to take advantage of the Live.com rebate on Ebay. My question is - how do I know if the camera I purchase is gray market? TIA
Hi.
You can ask the seller-if its Canon USA-warranty. That should tell you. If its from a company like B/H, Adorama, etc. large company, they will offer 1 year warranty on imported (gray). That may not be a problem, they will possibly see that it g ets fixed , if needed. Stay with a large , recommended company, good advise.
Cheers
Harry
You should ask the seller if he/she will include a receipt from an authorized dealer. Additionally, low-price sales are usually gray market. Some sellers are authorized e.g. theimagingworld, pmidigital, normancamera etc
Yeh, I bought gray market but only realised recently. Unfortunately my warranty would have ended this week and I thought it would have been a tad too late.
Luckily my long lasting stuff - 70-200 2.8, 17-55 IS, 580EX II should all last a very long time. I believe all but the 17-55 IS is not gray market
