p.1 #1 · Flying 35L 1.4 and the Sudden Impact

Backpack out from the trunk, over my shoulder. Unzipped.

Caused phenomenon called Infamous Flying Lens. Hit the pavement. (the Lens)

No broken glass but says clackety-clack when shaken.

Lost some basic functions like working. (not me, the Lens)

Happened to anybody else?

Guess i have to take it to Canon repairs but what might be chances to make it alive again?

This is why I never walk away from a bag unless it's zipped and never pick one up unless I know it's closed.

Sorry to hear though, hopeful it can be fixed and that you had insurance.

Sorry to hear that.....well, at least the glass elements may not have to be replaced. I am sure good Canon service folks in HellSinkin will take care of your little plastic source of joy.

i had that with a laptop....it sailed across the room and impacted the tv cabinet in a hotel room. Fortunately it was in its protective sleeve. Now I always check all zippers.

Ouch that hurts.
I had a similar incident happen when I shot a friends wedding in a pinch (wedding photog never showed). I had my 16-35 in my pocket and it fell out with a LOUD crash in the middle of the Church. The flower girl then turned around and yelled "Silly Billy!" and laughed and continued walking down the isle. Not only was my face beet red but my lens was broke. I heard rattling but at the end of the day I heard no more rattling, popped the lens on and it worked again. I still sent it out afterwards just to be safe.

The unzipped bag is a mistake you (hopefully) only make once. I got lucky the one time when I did it. I was taking some pics from a walkay in the middle of a marsh. I set my bag down on the walkway and unzipped it to quickly grab something out of it.

When I came back to it several minutes later I grabbed it and of course the lenses inside fell out. Fortunately, they basically rolled out onto the walkway instead of actually falling. ...but, I almost lost my teleconverter and a lens. They almost rolled right off the walkway into the marsh. .....well, lesson learned!

Launched my Sigma 20mm down some concrete steps. Luckily it landed on its hood - Some marks and some of the little plastic tabs that hold the hood in place have broken but it still works fine. Kinda ruined it's resale value though.
