Some more from my Sunday outing, some different stuff here.

Tim

1 Cold morning foggy haze on the pond (this looked good in the view finder, what do you think?) Female hooded mergansers

2 Taken from the same spot as 1. I rotated 90 degrees to my right and this guy was posing at minimum focus. Song sparrow

3 this guy would pose and let me get close but would he get in the open? nope
Redtail hawk, dark morph

Cool shots, Tim. I like the effect in the first shot. Do #1 & #5 maybe need a tilt down on the right side?

Tim,
Great series. Like to see some more of those fog shots. Horizon looks a tad off on this one.
Nice sparrow portrait and bufflehead. The lighting and reflections on the teal make it my pick also.

Tim,

Is the first shot level? Just curious, to my untrained eye it looks like it could use a little rotation.

Really like the Johny Bravo style Raptor
And you know the Teal is always on the top of my list too!
Can't say I like the fog though. Just looks hazy to me and just doesn't do much for me.
Hey I call em as I see em I know some really like the foggy look, but for some reason
those never appeal to me................. Maybe it's lack of an artistic side But I still have my autistic side to save me

Thanks Dave. I do plan on playing with the fog more in the future, I find it to be peaceful.

Yes Tony they are slightly off. I don't know why I can never see that in my own shots

Thanks for the kind words.

As noted a couple of shots are of kilter Just can't seem to get that right.

That hawked really pissed me off, he would do everything but get in the open.

Cool deal on the fog, thanks for the honesty.

Thanks Ant.

Howdy Mr Tim
Sorry not feeling the fog shot but I am all for them. To explain maybe I don't like the color cast(seems magenta) to me or the distant tree stumps crop adj? Maybe a tad of contrast or saturation??

I do think you exceeded your min focus distance on #2, too close not sharp to me.

RTH in the tangles is a nice natural shot, he looks very sharp

Last two 'floaters' look excellent as you normally have done with these guys

Please don't give up on the fog shots, I know you will find a very presentable way to PP them

Take care...........

Glad to see some folks are actually giving honest opinions....

Nothing against you, Tim, but I had set up a poll a couple months back based on my observations in the forums: If there is something really wrong with a picture, the author should be told about it...else he will continue making the same mistakes. I am sure there's a lot of experienced/talented photographers who can tell you what's working & what's not working in these pictures. But, 90% of the time I see "kudos, Attaboy!" That thing...is wrong !
Peace !

Thanks Ted, yes I was close to the hawk. At the time of that shot about 20 meters but I did get up to 10 meters. I really wanted a good portrait but there just wasn't an open shot.

Karl, 1 that was the color at the time. Sunrise, some clouds setting off color, blueish sky, fog, it all conspired to make an odd color. I too think it has some flatness feeling to it, I think that is the fog and longish shot. Thanks for the thought.

2 Funny you said that. I did one pass of sharpening and it looked TOO sharp so I backed it down. I should have left it maybe? It is also at 1/250, the bird might have breathed I'm also not sure of the comp.

Thanks buddy, I'll keep working on the fog.

Lcollector, I have always been one to foster honest critiques, I take crap for it all the time. I want people to be honest and point out problems with my shots, I have made that quite plain over the past year. That is how I learn. That said not everybody is looking for that or wants to do that. I'm okay with attaboys if that is how a person wants to participate. This is an open forum without rules about comments. Some will critique some won't. There was a thread here just a week or so go ago addressing this issue. It was quite clear from the results of that post that people are split over this issue.

Always feel free to make constructive critiques of my pictures, I want that. I will do the same with your pictures.

Hey brotha' is this 50d camera new? when did you bought it?
ok ok seriously now
1st shot looks spooky...maybe a B&W will do more justice? usually foggy shots like that look better in B&W maybe w a higher contrast
Sparrow looks mighty sharp for a 1/250s shot!! if I turn the IS off and shoot at that ss i'll get a complete blur i'm no human tripod I guess
Last 2 are really cool....specially the teal!

I'm surprised you remember me Nello, your memory isn't what is used to be

B&W for 1, maybe I'll give that a shot.
2 I did actually use a tripod for that one! Imagine that!

Thanks for the words buddy.
