Nope. Personally, I give them and my clients really appreciate them. Beware though, there are military families that expect DEEP discounts.

i dont give discounts. there are always special cases, though and i would never say never.

that being said, i have 2 couples booked for next season where hubby is a serviceman and i've offered each bride a complimentary portrait/boudoir after-shoot with web/screen-quality pics to send when hubby deploys.

just a nice little thank you for our fabulous military folks

Some people around military installations will offer 10% discounts. I am military and I have always apprecitated it. It is not required but I know it keeps me going back to places who support us. I am not sure where you are at but 10% off might land you more jobs from with in the members unit or base. Just my 2 cents worth.

We've given them and not regretted it at all.

As should we all.
I gladly give it, but on my terms. Each of us has to work with what those terms might be. The rest of the details have some bearing as well. ie the busiest saturdays in the busiest months of the year...probably no discount or very little....but the third Tuesday in January...sure no problem, we'll cut a good deal.

I live 5 minutes from Travis Air Force base and about an hour from Beale, so I get lots of inquiries from military for weddings. I happily give a 10% discount, it keeps my name out there, and I feel its my way to say thank you for their service.

I do 10% for military. Right now, I'm offering a free wedding to a military couple as long as the date isn't a Sat. I have a very strong appreciation of the men and women that serve the US and this is just one small way I can show it. Y

Being former military and knowing what service members go through for the amount of pay they receive... I ALWAYS give special discounts and offers to them. Beginning next year I will shoot one wedding gratis each year for a needy service member. It's a 100% deductable job and the feeling you get for helping is priceless. Over the last few years I'd shoot one wedding for free to a couple I felt would truly benefit fro the savings. I'd encourage everyone to try to do this if you have the means to support it.

i don't give a discount on the service of the wedding, but i offer a free product (album, prints, etc). most of my products are a la carte and i find military families value them. but 10% seems fair, although here in TN it is basically only takes tax off.

+1. I have been doing one free wedding a year, although it hasn't been restricted to military couples. BUT... since I'm a veteran myself, I might have to make that a requirement for next year's winner! It's a nice way to say thanks...

They give up a lot when they serve their country. They move every 2-4 years, have to start over in a new place with new friends, new places to shop, new way of life, new house, new bosses... and I know first-hand that it's not easy.

So while it's not a law, it's always a downright GOOD thing to do!

It should be a law... I'd vote for it.

Here is the link to my give-a-way this year. So far, I only have one couple that has registered. They both are currently serviing. I think others are just missing it when they visit the site. Yvette

By the way, I guess it's a good thing that a lot are not registering. I would probably want to give them all a free wedding. Talk about breaking the bank..ouch..At least my heart is in the right place. Y

military salaries aren't that high... so keep that in mind. it's definitely honorable to grant a discount to someone that defends your freedoms voluntarily. now, if they're pretentious, that's another story...

The prices and rates are negotiable for a wide range of reasons: from whimsy to weather - but not for any military reason.

I don't give discounts because it devalues what I have worked so hard to create, that being perceived value fo my product and serv ices.
I do however, if I feel so inclined give away extra product once they make a commitment. But not as an incentive to book but rather a thank you for booking, or a thank you for your service.

I don't give discounts like that to any type of profession as standard - I mean, then I'll have to give one to doctors who save lives everyday , firefighters who run into a burning buildings while everyone is running out, policemen, etc. etc.

I give personal discounts to couples that I like and my decision is based on their personality and story. It's just more personal that way - not to mention more fair.
