Put a remote operated body at the altar or other location - the videographers do it and so can you! I've done it so I know it can be done. Use PWs for triggering - everytime you take a shot the remote body does too.
Cost? You carry a backup body, right? Use it for this. PWs are pretty standard fare for a working pro.

Yes, the new G10 works like a charm and has a PW cable input on the side. Reason, patience and courtesy - when all parties behave professionally magic occurs.

You are talking about patience, courtesy, and professionalism?!?
You've called church personel "the cow," you've called a priest "the fuddy duddy in the frock," you encourage ignoring rules, and yet you talk about behaving professionally?

Of course. Professionalism and courtesy are the best option. And, when faced with a silly cow and really foolish rules the professional approach works most often.
The situation described in the OP would demand a professional approach when completely ignoring what that woman has to say.

Paula,
There are about as many 'rules' as there are photographers, officiants, churches, and other venues. Check out this site: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/709337
The bottom line seems to be: check out the policies of the person performing the ceremony, make certain that the bride knows those policies and is comfortable with them. Obviously, you can't photograph what you are not allowed to photograph.
ksmahgrts' comments are valid. Agree on whether you or the bride check ouit the policies so both of you do not go in blind.
Gak that was my train wreck... I'm shooting it next Saturday, we'll see what happens...
