It takes a lot of patience to shoot bees Karen, especially in the wild! You're doing VERY well -keep at it!
That orange stuff is pollen -she's gonna take it back to the hive. All of the honeybees that you see are female. The males don't leave the hive unless they are going to mate with a queen.

Except at the end of the season, when they are surplus to requirement, and thus a drain on colony resources, and are pushed out to perish.(We don't want this idea getting around, chaps!).
These look quite yellow, indicating that they are of the "New Zealand" type, which tend to be much more docile, but don't rely on it!

If that is honey other than from that hive then you are risking infecting them with bee diseases. (Honey has antiseptic properties but some bacteria get through, including enough to be of some hazard to human infants). Sugar syrup is OK.
Sorry to be a "wet blanket" but the risks are real.
Sorry to hijack the thread, Karen, but to e6filmuser, I did not know that. Thanks for the headsup. A real worry with the current state of troubles with honeybees. I'll stick to sugar water from now on.

Must admit that this was a lost bee in my patio enticed to sit on my very aromic vase of native flowers....I will say though he didn't sit still for very long....

There is no worries about this if we can all learn something along the way here, hijack away..
