With shipping fees and USD to CDN conversion, the new zeiss ZE 21mm F2.8 distagon should be around 2300 Canadian dollars.. For that price, I'm actually going to consider a Nikon 14-24mm F2.8G along with a D90 for a couple hundreds more. 14-24mm becomes a 21-36mm on a crop sensor and the nikon wideangle zoom is comparable to the old 21mm distagon. I'm guessing the new distagon is similar to the old one in terms of IQ because of lens design.
With an additional D90 body I don't need to ever swap lenses and I can use my current 5D for telephoto work (85mm F1.2 II and 70-200m F4L IS). I'll make the decision after january when the 21mm distagon is actually released and reviews are up.
I didn't know that but thanks for the info. I guess i missed the whole party since I went into photography 1-2 years ago. However, I did see one or two distagons selling for ~2500 USD on ebay before the ZE announcement came out.
I was really expecting the 21mm ZE distagon to be about 1300 USD. Had the money all saved up as well lol....
The price for the 24mm F1.4L II is also up at Aden Camera's website for about 1800-1900 CDN. I'm guessing it should be released in december so I'm waiting for the reviews to come out. If the lens is razor sharp from center to edge at F2.8 and beyond I'm guessing I can grab one for landscapes.

So, you think it is too expensive ? You know at one time that lens did fetch over $4K some 3-4 years ago and that is US$, too.
There will be unlimited supply of the new lens. The Contax 21mm was sold out when people started to adapt it to Canon FF cameras. Therefore I dont think you can compare the price of the rare Contax to the new ZE
Also Zeiss did not yet publish the MTF of the ZE 21mm, we dont know really how its going to perform, Zeiss seems to have some QC problem recently.
