Hello,
So once again Christmas time is coming and I really wanted to ask for a compact camera but I feel this will be harder then picking out my DSLR. I hope done some research and messed with a couple of cameras and here is what I want.
Olympus - slim, waterproof, shockproof, good images/features
Nikon - I dont know about this one... I would like to buy a Nikon but not so sure. They good slim and sleek though!
Canon - Zoom, Features, MP
So I plan on sticking with those three companies. Should I be looking around at other camera companies like Panasonic or Sony to name a few of my head?
Any models you have had success with? Are the new Nikon Coolpix's just realeased worth a try?
Something not as big as the G10/9. I want something that is small enough for pocket size. It is for everyday snapshots and I do not need the processing power of the G10 or the image quality.
Dispite not being familiarized with Panasonic (is it good, bad? I'm used to canon, nikon...), the LX-3 looks like a good choice. I'm also interested in a compact camera...
I have to ask though, isn't it a less expensive Leica D-LUX 4?
Nikon S700 (not 710. the s700 is very similar to the Casio below) Casio Z1200 (one of the most understated cameras, excellent highlight control) Fuji F100 (still very good considering the previous f30 is still of the the best) Oly 1050 (waterproof, fast, wide lens) Panasonic LX3 (bit big though... nice 24mm lens)
The canon SD990 (IXUS 980) ... no. The SD880 (IXUS 870)... yes.
Thanks nikt. I am going to head up there in a bit and I will come back with my findings. I hope they have all these cameras to mess around with! I need a B&H in my backyard now.
I am going to go with the Fujifilm F100fd camera. It was very nice to use and the menu system was completely intuitive. I was small and could fit into my pocket. The image quality could keep up with my needs and the high ISO was very nice on it. There is also a $100 rebate going on this bad boy which drops it down to $199 on B&H. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
I did play with the LX3. Although a great camera and I could see myself using it, I couldn't really see it for the purpose I was using it for. I want to do the everyday snapshots with the friends type thing but I do want to take it out with me for some photographs that would be special. I think the LX3 does wonders but it was slightly bigger then I had excepted and its alittle too much money for what I need. I also got to play withe Lecia D-LUX 4 and it was exactly the same as the Panasonic LX3 but with Leica written all over it. I think it has a bigger image sensor but I saw no differences at all between the two.
I feel good about the Fujifilm F100fd pick.
Ohh and the Nikon Coolpix 610 was gross in image quality. I would zoom in to see the 100% crops and was like o my. That wasn't a very favorable camera for me. I think I am going to stick with the Fujifilm on this one. I didn't have the chance to mess around with the Canon cameras. They had a very small selection surprisedly.
