i forget the guy but he has compared these lenses , i will see if i can dig it up. he is the guy who describes the [sic] Drawing Style , of the lenses if anyone else can help first

perhaps if you read the article i pointed to or google'd the nikkor14-24 you would find tests all over the world saying that This zoom is the rule breaker and in fact sharper than pretty much every lens it can replace FL wise

The 14-24 is not the same lens as the 24-70, if you haven't noticed yet.

Still, it is a good point that zooms aren't necessarily less good than primes. The 24-70 is amazing, but it isn't perfect. The only reason I use primes too is to get shorter DoF and/or carry less weight.
