p.1 #1 · M42-EOS adapter WITH flange?

Can anyone recommend a good M42-EOS adapter that specifically has a flange?

Almost all of them now seem to be flangeless, but I need one that can hold-in the pin on my Vivitar Series-one 200/3.

I'd like something that is known to be at the proper thickness, for infinity-focus. Black anodized would be nice as well, but the black ones I see are all flangeless as well.

I don't want a chipped adapter. I first want to see if this lens is a keeper, compared to my Nikon 180 AI-s & AF, then I'll get one of Rudolf's chips.

BTW: So far, wide open, this lens is really making me smile. It's not quite Nikon-sharp, (what is?) but the colors & drawing style are superb, richer than the Nikons. It's also Bokehlicious.
Does anyone here use one?

Hi,

You might try Big_IS. When I emailed them they said they could send adapters either with or without the flange. In the end I went with a happypagehk adapter from Rudolph and it does have a flange, so I never really got one from Big_IS, but I think you could probably get one there. I hope this helps,

Steve

Yes, I also have the flange version from Big_Is and they work well. What I have done on other lenses with a pin is to glue the pin in.

Thanks.

Is the Big_IS flanged adapter known to be of consistently accurate thickness?

I don't want to glue the pin, in case the lens ever needs servicing.

I've gotten ones from kawaphoto on ebay, they all have the flange, are cheap ($5), seem perfectly sized, and ship from the US not china.

200/3 is a great lens, no doubt. the early vivitar series 1 stuff was the best they ever made. I think the 135/2.3 is along the same lines as the 200/3, and well regarded.

I second what Ed , said about the kawaphoto M42 adapter. It will hold your pin in.

The M42 adapters from Kawa have no flange:

Ignore the picture... all the ones I have from them (at least 10) all have the flange...

Thanks, guys. I was about to order one of those, but I bumped into a new chipped adapter which is USER programmable. (theoretically.) It's also "certified thickness" for correct infinity-focus. (we shall see...) It definitely has a flange, and it's black. (not sure if that's anodized, though.)

This Singapore dealer has them at $35. (and $25 for the chip alone)
The price seems too good to be true (possibly rejects? inconsistent thickness? no tech support?) but I couldn't resist trying them. Even if the chip goes south, I'd still have a black adapter.

I ordered two, so we shall see.

Let us know how they work out. IMO, the black/aluminum ones are not as robust or well made as the chromed brass ones. (just a materials standpoint, for the most part).
