p.1 #1 · Does my Flea Market T5D Work?

Okay... it wasn't a flea market, it was an auction and I bought a backpack for $17 that contained the following:
1 - Qflash T5d-R
1 - Qflash T2
1 - Quantum Turbo Battery Pack.
Both Flash units had what appeared to be mounts to put them on top of a stand. The bag it was all in was a pretty cool Tenba backpack, too!

Anyway... here's the thing. I'm an amature snapshotter and airshow shutterbug. This equippment is way beyond me and I plan on eBaying it asap. (I'm pretty psyched about the profit potential here!) I buy and sell at auctions to fund my flying habit, and this should buy at least a couple hours in the air....

Problem is, I don't know how to check these items to see if they're working properly, and I was hoping someone here might give me a little help. They are not for sale here... they will be on eBay only. I turned on the battery pack and it lit up. I hooked up both of the flash units to it and they powered up and let me scroll through menus. But then both said 'check turbo'. I thought it might be low on juice, so I plugged it in (the battery pack charger as in the backpack, too.) Two amber lights came on on the face of the battery pack. It's still charging.

So.... Can I test these flash units without hooking them to a camera? I do have a digital Rebel, but I have no idea how to use it with these flash units. How do I know if the battery is good, if it is charging, and when it is full? I see the button on the front of each flash unit that has the flash symbol... is that to test the unit? Is there anything that regularly fails on these (or the battery) that I can easily check? I just want to make sure my listing is accurate and fair!

Are these flash units so incredibly awesome that I'd be a fool to let them go?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

For $17, it seems that you bought a gold mine, if these all still work.

Go to the Quantum site and download manuals for all these. Who knows, you just might need to rest them, because of the "reset turbo" message. (Get the manuals downloaded!)

You need a camera with a synch attachment to test them out.

Thanks for the reply! After the battery charged, the units both came on fine, allowed me to adjust the various settings and fired just fine.... I've listed them on ebay... I use the same user name there as here, so check out the listings if you get a moment!

I really have enjoyed this site! I'm thinking about cleaning up a few of my best shots so the experts here can rip them apart... let me know if I have a chance of turning my hobby into something real someday...

Thanks again!
Mike
