p.1 #1 · 1Ds MK II and EOS Utility issues

Hey guys, I just picked up a really nice used 1Ds MK II. I'm trying to get into the personal functions, but when I try to open the folder in EOS utility it is greyed out. The camera only came with the USB cable, and not the firewire cable. Am I correct in assuming that I need that cable to change the personal functions? And if so, where can I get one?

Thanks in advance,
Josh

Yes you NEED firewire cable. It is a standard one, just check both slide of the cable before ordering (on the pc, it is the usual firewire, but a smaller one on 1DsII bodie). Sorry don't have the name here, but don't buy an overpriced canon one !

Yup, I agree

You need a firewire cable with one small end and the other to whatever you have (I have found the slot-in pc cards the best for reliablity)

If you have a laptop it may well have a small FW socket already.

But BEWARE, the connection is not perfect, I have had terrible trouble connecting any of my 3 1D2 series cameras via firewire for extended periods - the connections just dropped out. So it might not be the camera or the software, just bear that in mind

Thanks, what a pain that was. I couldn't load the camera drivers on my 64 OS (no suprise there). So, I had to buy a firewire card for my 32 bit tower. Then I had to search through sys32 for the drivers. Then had to do the same thing for a canon sys 32 driver to communicate with the new card. Oh, well. Everything is working fine. I was just happy to be able to change some things in the personal menu.

thanks again.
