Need help with a new monitor please. My CRT died so I need a new monitor. I have no experiece with an LCD. I have been told to get a PVA or S-PVA type. I have been searching but am just getting over-whelmed. Would like to just go to Best Buy and get one but most of the listings don't say if they are S-PVA. Can somene just tell me some makes/models to get. Looking for somewhere around 22" with a price of 500 or less.
Well - if you are referring to the bit about color it is. If you are not familiar with color management you need to get a little more knowledge of it. Try the guidelines at the top of the Post Processing board for more.
To summarise as best I can.
Although images with the sRGB color space look good on ordinary monitors using say Internet Explorer, Windows Picture Viewer and Irfanview they do not on the Dell or other wide gamut monitors.
However, viewed using Firefox 3 (with the option enabled to be color aware), or in Photoshop or in other programs which are color space aware they are fine.
Images with the aRGB color space look fine as well using these applications - but don't using Internet Explorer - even on a normal monitor
It is not a major problem - just one to be aware of.

Holy Cow this is all so confusing ... lol
I agree. LCD selection these days requires a dang university degree. It's lame!
But that Dell is pretty good. If you want to simplify your search just get that. It's probably the best at that price. The problem is their panel parts (type) selection is random between 2 different types so you won't know which you're getting till you turn it on and test it. Either type is pretty good tho.
