p.1 #1 · a decent olympus tele

prime or zoom, does not matter. Is there anybody using one?
After using 24mm, 28mm, and 35mm shift I'm convinced that a tele zoom from Oly can not be bad either. I just like their size and won't mind MF.

Thanks a lot.

If you can afford it, these are up there among the best: OM 350mm f2.8, OM 250mm f2.0, and OM 180mm f2.0

The OM 500mm f8.0 mirror lens is probably about as good it gets for a mirror lens. I compared it to the Tamron, Nikon, and without a doubt, the OM was sharper and offered more contrast for a mirror lens. Not to mention, was slightly more compact.

For the budget friendly buyer, the 85-250mm f5.0 isn't too bad - nice colors and quite sharp for a zoom.
The 200mm f4.0 is sweet and can be had for $100 or less.
400mm f6.3 is another very good prime, but with a slightly smaller aperture.
They also had a 300mm f4.5 which was really nice.

The 600mm and 1000mm are a bit more expensive and rather big - if you feel the urge to go even longer

Well how about a short tele prime? The 135 f2.8 is very nice, sharp, nice bokeh, and just a perfectly easy lens to handle. Perfect size and good price. The 200 f5 is tiny and really sharp if you have the light.
The 300 f4.5 is nice, but actually a bit big. I tend to rather bring out my 70-200 f4 L IS or 400L 5.6 instead.

I really like the 135/3.5. Small and sharp. Cheap

The 135/4.5 Macro on a 65-116 tube makes both a great macro lens as well as a tele. Superb lens!

I also have the 75-150/4 but have not used it enough to review it.

OM 200/4 is a sweet compact and very affordable tele.
Search this forum for the thread "Oly 200/4 A Gem?" (think that was the title) for more examples.
Here is one of the few I've taken with so far:

The 90/2 and 100/2 are also pretty sweet I'd think. 100/2.8 is reportedly nice and not that expensive either.

I have the Zuiko 100/2.8 and it's very good, a notch below my Canon 100 Macro and 6 times cheaper and some times smaller. Sweet.
I will buy a 200/4 or 200/5 in the near future.

I have a super clean Oly 75-150/4 I have not even tried using yet. Its very compact and might make a decent light travel zoom. It even has a 49mm filter size.

I will test it at f/4 and f/11 to see how it performs...

The 75-150mm f4.0 was one of the standard (not super) performers in the OM lineup. It was cheap and the results were nowhere close to what you could expect from a prime. However, for the price, and once stopped down, the 75-150mm f4.0 is not too shabby.

hi Photomaxim,
That will be really great. You can get that lens for as low as 20 euro. I will also check out 200mm.
I know something like 70-200/4L is a better solution, but it ain't AL, right?

Both 200/4 and 200/5 are great lenses. I have the 200/5, and it's so compact you can put it in a coat pocket. The 100/2.8 is also a nice lens, and as compact as 50mm lenses from other manufacturers. I have used mine a lot on the Olympus E-1.

If you don't mind a bit more weight than your average OM lens, the 180/2.8 is a very nice lens and a bit more affordable than its f/2.0 sibling.

Edit of my previous post: now I *have* a Zuiko 200/5.
Let's see how it performs.
