I have bought (and therefore tested) several 30 1.4 for different friends of mine, another very good performer (better than far more epxensive lenses) for crop cameras, if you take the time to test a few copies..
Has anyone sent a lens to Sigma for focus and NOT been satisfied with the repair? I wouldn't be willing to adjust a Canon camera to work with a Sigma lens, as some people seem to do.
The only data I've seen is that rental companies summary of repairs that show Sigmas are far more likely to break than Canon. But I've had two Sigmas over the years and no problems. I feel that a lens is worth purchasing from Sigma if it has a unique feature set or is a very good value compared to Canon.
Looking at the MTF of the Sigma 50, the Canon 50 1.2 doesn't do that well below f2. Half the price, and very little can be shot at 1.2. Clearly the Canon has focus issues too.

Note that if you read that particular rant from the rental company, they concede that the vast majority of their Sigma issues were with the two new OS Telezooms (the 120-400 and 150-500) which are brand new designs using technology (OS) that Sigma's very new to.

Anyway, AF is a luxury here in the Alt forum.
YES I sent a lens for full calibration, they sent it back saying it checked fine and I put it on my 5D and bam still back-focusing, I tried a second copy and saw the same. I put my camera in the hands of the importer and he said he saw the same... so he blamed my camera body (which is perfect with all my alt glass and my canon glass) then I contacted Sigma direct and they blamed my camera body as well so I don't buy Sigma any more.

I blame my camera body. After canon tweaked my camera (without any of my lenses!) it suddenly front focused. I made canon adjust the camera to their in house ref lens (whatever that is). Suddenly my 85L stopped back focusing as well.
