Ventured down to the lake yesterday still nursing my right arm but wanting to try out my 40d with the 500. Found a little harbour full of mallards. Here are a few shots. C&C welcome. Thanks for looking.

Martin, you really through me off with the title to this post Image #2 is pretty neat, just wish there was a peek of the eye but the form is sure lovely #3 is nice and I do certainly like your cheerleader, that is a great shot.
In general comps seem a bit tight to me, #3 really could use some more area left for the direction the duck is looking. You had some very pleasing light on these, nice

Looks like a great outing Martin..you nailed some great shots! last 1 is my fav. but they're all good
Hope your arm recovers quickly!

Martin,

Hey these aren't floral shotz I guess you squeezed in a couple of ducky daisys though

Cropped these a bit to tight and the saturation looks a bit heavy to me.
Got some good poses especially in the last one.

40d and 500 should be real nice combo. A little lighter than the Mark III and 500 by a tad

Thanks Karl.
Actually with the 1.4 on I didn't crop all that much they were so close. Probably could have done without it but wanted to try it. And are right, I was lucky to get a nice golden light. As for # 3 I tried giving it space on the left but although the head is facing to the left I thought the eye is facing to the right so I gave it some more room there instead.

Hi Nello,
Was looking out for some tigers........ or even a cat but no luck
Kriens is 260 Kms from Geneva or a 3 hours drive. Are you driving or flying there?
When in December? Maybe we could arrange something.
Thanks for the nice comments.

Yeah, daisies are about the only ones left these days Ant
Actually I didn't saturate much on these, between 1-5% at the most and mostly at the lower end of this scale. I think it was mostly the good light and I used the shadow and highlighting more and it just brought out the colors a tad.
I was wishing I had a Yak like you though Ant. There was a flock of Cormorants on the lake but too far out to get any good shots and where they were roosting was a private beach that I couldn't get near from land. And there should be lots of migratory birds coming through. Am sure here in Switzerland one has to have a licence to take one out on the lake too.....

I'm taking the train from Milan to Lucerne. There's a direct train leaving every hour or so. That way i'll enjoy the scenery
Arrival date should be 10th december if all goes well.

Nice duckies Martin! Love the look in 3, maybe if you could have gotten a little lower? I really like 2, I'm a sucker for those preening poses. Well done.

I hope you can hook up with Nello, he's a fun guy to shoot or hang around with.

The light was good for the color on this outing, getting to be a rare thing here at this time of year.
Thanks Ken.

Hi Tim,
Now if I had a Yak like you........I could have a LDB too
Thanks Tim. Loved your eagle shots in the fog and to get so close, must have been great.
Trying to hook up with Nello but we both work different hours and its not so easy. But one of these days for sure.

Hi Martin, beautiful set! some very nice colors and detail in these and the light in most of them is sweet. #5 has a special appeal to me and I like it very much. Also 4 (nice angle) and 7 (pleasing composition) are in my favorite list. What really would help the composition, tho, is a pretty young girl in bikini.
Take care and be well,
Socrate

Hi Socrate,
Thanks for the nice comments. Glad you liked #5. I liked it a lot too.
Thanks too for the helpful tip on the composition but it has it's practical difficulties these days with winter weather in Geneva
Here's the closest one could expect to get that day from the shore of the lake- a fast boat and everyone on board well wrapped up.
Cheers,
Martin
