It's amazing how much focus stacking brings to macro photography in the hands of a skilled macro photographer. It can liberate so much more detail and beauty through greater effective DOF. It can also liberate composition from the "prison" of the limited DOF in a single (unstacked) photograph.

I am resolved to begin to learn the basics of focus stacking during the upcoming winter, probably starting with inanimate objects!! Fortunately, Lord V has posted very helpful tutorials, some with practical exercises (see below).

There is of course plenty of room in all forums for both single-exposure and focus-stacked images - macro photography is remarkably open-ended and has room for so many different styles and approaches.
