I still can not get over the fact that I can not do basic operations with my iPhone that I could do with a 4 year old Treo.

Like search my calender ! How basic a function is that. Or cut and paste from an email into another program.

iPhone is very nice phone with some serious design flaws. Oh, two more things I should mention. It's quite slow when starting up programs. And the 3rd party applications are, for the most part, not very good but I assume better ones will appear over time (the store available ones. Not something like google maps which comes with the phone and which is useful).

Yeh, battery life isn't great. And you should be able to pop in an extra battery. But you can't.

One of the primary differentiators for the current stock of devices is the keyboard. Are you willing to use a virtual keyboard, or do you want a real keyboard?

I got a BB Storm yesterday. If you're not looking for a phone to watch youtube vids, listen to music, find out which song is playing on the radio, etc. it's incredible. It's kind of like an iPhone for adults. I manage 4 email accounts, edit excel docs, and do a ton of other real "work" with it. When vLingo is available for it, it'll be perfect.

I handled the Storm a few days ago in a Verizon store and was less than impressed after about 45 minutes of use. The thing just does not seem ready for prime-time right now. It is slow and buggy (even after a soft reset) and suffers from a lot of the launch jitters that afflicted the iPhone. Hopefully the patch that RIM pushes out to get rid of the current security hole will also improve some of the functionality gripes that a lot of users have been reporting

+1 with hondageek, got my Storm last friday and really havent had any issuse with it it came with the latest OS up date. My biggest thing I have noticed is its not linking up with my BT headset when using my speed dial entries but a quick press of the headset fixes that. Ok the camera leaves a bit to be desired at this point but I belive that will be fixed with future updates as well, and I have $ worth of better camera gear and it wasnt why I bought it.
The Storm seems to be geetting a bad wrap and it seems mostly from Iphone fanboys it does have so issues but I think those will be rimeded soon,its either that or I have the best working Storm that was produced.
It is a grown ups Iphone the touch screen takes some gettoing used to as well but after the first 3 days I had it down.Unfortunately the original poster has Spint for a provider so it is not an option for him.
But if he is looking for email capabilites BB will be the way to go it also supports "docs to go". I used 3 different models of Treos over the last 4-5 years and had more problems with the Palm OS than I ever did with my latest windows version in fact rarely had a problem with it unless I used the camera. But if you tube and music is important then perhaps Iphone is the way to go.

Personally I couldn't work without my iPhone anymore. The 3rd party app support and infinite customizations it offers is just amazing. Apple created a pretty good product, but the sum of all it's parts is greater than the whole.

Amazing apps, awesome media phone that can handle a lot of stuff, GPS, 3G, really is the "works" phone for my use.

Another vote for the iPhone. Held off on picking one up until just a week ago and am finding it to be an incredible and valuable tool. No problems with email (3 accts), web access, call quality and syncing with Outlook and my windows OS (so we know it's mac compatible). Battery power isn't as bad as I had been led to believe, either. I have wireless turned off, though, until I need it (the 3g network is pretty quick).

One of my brotheres had been with Sprint for years and made the switch without a single complaint.

It wasn't an OS "swap", it was a simple misprinting of the OS number on the label, or so it was said. The OS is the same. It's just that the thing being held by dozens or hundreds of different users without being turned off or reset probably did a number on the speed. There are very few iPhone "fanboys" criticizing the Storm phone -- most of the criticism is coming from early adopters of the Storm.

I'm using the BlackBerry Bold and it is the best device I have ever used. I've owned Palm Treos, Windows Mobile, and Nokia S60 devices over the years. Nothing works quite as fast and efficiently as BlackBerry. It handles multimedia superbly too if that is your thing.

I agree with comments about the Treo. It was a piece of junk and the worst built device I've ever had. Mine was literally falling apart after a year.

it's hard to beat a treo for sheer features and possiblities... with thousands of palm programs out there... changeable storage... etc... an iPhone is an 'almost-treo'

a BB is okay but is kinda limiting with the limited selection of programs

windows phones are even more limiting

symbian based phones are ok and will probably get better over time as more apps become available...

wow, all of the above & no mention of the T-Mobile G1 ... fast, easy to use and all the features of the BB & iPhone plus a cheaper rate plan

it bridges with all my email addys, sync's with multiple calendars & planners, keeps my budget, maps my GPS, plays tunes too

my previous phone was a BB Pearl

If you need reliable email phone go for Blackberry.
If you need something extra (more fun) go for iPhone. Much more applications there for sure, and the web browsing experience is a killer to any other phone.

Blackberry Curve user. I want the Bold but no way in hell I'm leaving T-Mobile. They've been good to me for about 9 years now, no complaints whatsoever and customer service is about as good as I need. I have my work, personal, and photo emails directed to it, my personal calendar synced, my office calendar synced, about everything I currently need at my fingers. I dont need to view PDFs or JPEGS on my phone but it's nice to know I can if I need to proof somehting and im stuck in traffic. I'm always near a computer so I don't need Word or Photoshop, and I'm actually kind of mad that I can still get RickRolled on this thing. It's a solid phone even though it's 'ancient' (by today's standards even though it's less than 2 years old).

The only thing I get a little envious about is iPhone's browser. And it's shiny. I like shiny things. Everything else I pretty much have. I've got about 3GB of music on it if I feel like going for a run and don't want to bust out the heavy 80GB iPod.

are you getting instant notification that you have new email or you finding yourself receiving emails couple of hours later than they were send?
Blackberries are known for their "push email" reliability where Apple is struggling with it since trying to implement this service and introducing the MobileMe.

Apple is constantly working to fix this problem, but the fix isn't there yet...

I have mine set to push, mail seems to be getting to me on time....once in a while i get one of those straggler emails that show up hours later, but that happened with the treo too. I thought it was the fault of the email services. I 'll take a closer look at the time stamps...
