The Canon Ads seem specially high lately and the nikon gear pretty sparse...anyone else notice? or just me?
(for the record this is just an observation, nothing else implied or intended...no slander, no insult to AF systems, no 9 points of night, no weak fast wide zooms, no Nothing!!!) J/K!! all in jest and play!

When I look at my sunday classified section, I see more Ford trucks for sale than I do Dodge trucks. Does that mean that all of the Ford truck owners are moving to Dodge trucks? Or does it mean that Ford owns more market share than Dodge, and thus should have a corresponding higher number of trucks for sale?
While there is a small amount of people moving from Canon to Nikon, I really think this is just a case of people selling off gear to purchase things currently on Canon's Rebate, or to purchase the two new cameras Canon is releasing (50D and 5D MKII). Canon has a larger user base (as of today), and thus we would expect to see more Canon gear for sale than Nikon gear at any given point in time. You can generally spot when someone is moving from Canon to Nikon because they will say so in their post (because eventually someone will want to know why they are selling their item)

Hi BBD how are you doing? I tend to agree, one thing I have noticed personally is that since I switched to Nikon the desire to swap lenses has really faded. Canon just has too many choices for the weak at hart like me.

Dan, how you doing buddy? Haven't seen much on POTN these days. It sounds like you are enjoying the Nikon system. Glad to see it is working out for ya.
I do agree that Canon does have alot of choices in the lens lineup. I'm so beaten down by the number 24-70L vs 24-105L posts that seem to come up weekly, or the which 70-200 should I get the 70-200 f/4.0 or 70-200 f/4.0 IS or 70-200 f/2.8 or 70-200 f/2.8 IS. Sometime it is a good thing to restrict the number of choices. It can be a little overwhelming when a new guy has 4 versions of a 70-200 lens, or 4 versions of a 50mm prime to choose from.
I do like what Nikon is doing with their camera strategy, and wish Canon would follow suit. I would desperately like an equivalent to the D300 with it's combination of 51pt AF and crop sensor in a lightweight body. The 50D is not quite there in my opinion, and it getting very poor reviews with regards to high ISO performance.

they come in waves... sometimes more Canons ads and sometimes more Nikons.
But I have noticed lately that it's harder to find high-end Nikkors as they usually go pretty fast once posted in the buy&sell forum. i.e. I haven't seen any 70-200 VR for sale for a very very long time and same goes for the 85/1.4, 28-70/2.8, 80-200/2.8, etc...
I guess there IS a small but steady migration from the other camp... and they're picking up the already scarce (compared to Canon) used market equipments.

Heh. You want to talk about scarce. Medium Format digital is scarce! I have been on the lookout for a good deal on a phase back, and those things are freakin' rare.
