Hi all,
I usually hang out in the wedding forum, but thought I would drop by for a visit and share some grad photos. These girls really got into the session and had their make up proffessionally done (which doesn't normally happen in our neck of the woods), they brought with them a suit case with changes of clothes and were basically really into the shoot. The group dynamic was great as it helped loosen each girl up and it was easy to get genuine smiles and shots through out the day. C&C would be greatly appreciated and would provide a great distraction from doing papers and getting ready for the end of the semester work load (both my husband and I are full time university students: )
These are really well done. I particularly like #2 with how soft her face and how you exposed the BG and got her exposed properly as well. The tilt works for me too as well as the head shift she has going on. How did you light this. I'm a newb and trying to get stuff to look this good, but not very successful. You have a strong set here.
Thanks CapturedMoment,
We used a diffuser for the shots with the with the wheat, we used natural light for the one in the chair and the formal photos were lit with crappy Cameron studio strobes shooting through a large diffuser (poor man's soft box), with a reflector underneath for fill.
I am not a fan of tilted images. I do like them all a lot though. I think you have a great eye for complementary colors and they will look nice in print. I like the four with the one in the chair especially. I don't like the last few with the sash. I find it too distracting. ~Sheila
Thanks for commenting Sheila and LoneWolf2,
We did go a little crazy on the tilt we have since been careful not to repeat this bad habit in other grad shoots. The sash may be distracting but we can't get around it as it denotes what type of degree these girls have recieved (the yellow sash=Bachelor of Arts, the blue=Bachelor of Science)
You have a very good series here. Thanks for 'leaving' the wedding forum for a while.
All the photos are very well done, so take these comments more of a 'preference' nature, rather than finding something to complain about.
It's not too late to number these, so the comments make more sense.
#1 I like the golden background, but the wheat in front - not as much.
#2 One of my favourites.
#3 Maybe too much tilt? Should the knee stay in the frame at bottom? I have mixed feelings.
#4 My other favourite. Beautiful.
#5 Good pic, but two things bother me just a little. The bright patch of hair and the facial lighting. I'd like to see just a bit more shading (as in #7) to keep the features from disappearing.
#6. Nice posing. I find the background a bit bright for my taste.
#7-#8 & #9. All very well done.
I love the chair. I Have an ancient burnt orange wingback chair in storage and I think I am finally going to drag it out to use as a prop. I think the lighting and interactions definitely make these something they'll cherish!
And these are graduates from college? Wish they did shoots things back in my day...
I looked at these several times and the only thing I that struck me is, I'd like to see a vertical shot of the first one. That's it. They all look great to me. The images all speak volumes about the shoot and looking at the images, I'm sure you had just a good of time making the images as they did. Those are the kind of photo ops that I like. Well done and thanks for sharing.
Deb
Definitely get that chair out of storage, although annoying to transport our old chair was such a fun little prop. It added a different flare to the posing as during the day it could have gotten a tad bit reppetitive. Yes, these photos were taken for their Graduation from University.
thanks for taking the time to comment!
