#1. I like more of an angle than straight on.
It really looks like an old unshaven man to me.

#1 better defines the muzzle length and shape plus the general shape of the head and shoulder. The jowl is also better defined. And the off camera gaze is stronger. In #2 the animal seems to look weaker and the details blending to create almost a blur of shapes and colors.

And please tell us the breed. Quite a character.

#1 appears more dynamic and also leaves the dog's head more defined. The head gets lost down near the nose in #2.

Thanks guys for your input.
first the breed is Perro de presa canario. Canary Islands dog breed, guard and protection, cattle catcher also...

regarding pictures i asked what is your oppinion because these are for me 2 major type of dog portrait(in which most dog owners want their dog to be presented, except the rest of funny postures....)

so, the main issue is how to blend the 2 major attributes of the 2 types...
for me no.1 is better in presenting the dog, better definition of the head, shapes, expression, etc... BUT no.1 is about eye contact... kind, cruel, wild, vicious, calm, etc...sights allmost all the time have more impact for viewer...

so is description, like passive experience, versus direct contact thru sight/eyes... trying to have both in the same picture is something really tricky...

Hard to pick for the reasons you mentioned.

Some want to see the shape of the face/breed.

Some respond to the direct eye contact.

Simple Suggestion: Create a "diptych" that has both side by side and give that to the owner. Best of both worlds.

I tried to pick my favorite and flipped from one to the other for the above reasons. so...show both.
