Well, as alot of you may know, most Nikon users in this board look down upon the Canon section due to alot of "childish" users lets say. Now, with Nikon gaining more and more ground, how long will it be until all those childish users are Nikon shooters? OH no!!1!
Depends on your definition of critical mass of a-holes within a population, the current population, and the rate at which that population grows.
Let's assume 1 in 10 of a given population, say Nikon users, are deviants, miscreants, and other social outcasts. Then define critical mass, which could be based on a rate instead of a density; for example, the number of childish posts from the a-hole population per unit time.
So...do the math and let us know when we're there based on your criteria.

I think it will always be a battle. People have opinions and sometimes really don't know how to explain it. So, sometimes they come of kind of brandish. I've been in both camps. And i can tell you that i was pretty happy with both... Both canon and nikon are top notch companies. If your happy with the system, then your happy... sometimes, we just need to ignore the ignorant or the ramblings on of people whom just want to engage us in constant battle.

I haven't laughed so hard since I was a little girl!
Actually, when I was inquiring about old Canon film cameras on the Canon Forum I found them to be very helpful. Same thing on DPReview; very civilized exchange of information. On the other hand I have been flamed here in the Nikon Forum a few times.
I think it all depends on the type of question you ask and the particular mood/maturity level of the person reading it.

I can't help but think that you are bored, and just needed an excuse to post something here.
I find the Canon forum a little more contentious than Nikon's, but, I would not label it childish. A lot of good information is posted over there. I'm not sure you can correctly make sweeping statements about how "most" Nikon users feel.
I'm with the "too late" crowd.
This forum use to be informative, run, and filled with pictures and what not.
now-a-days that Nikon is being called the champ and tons of new users are crossing over from the old Champ Camp this place is turning into a "Look at my photo from X camera shot at X iso" regardless of photo content. I mean really, bokeh tests of horrible photos at high iso's as if its supposed to inspire people? Really
I wish this Nikon was back to being the chump so this place could be fun again.
