whilst on way round how could we resist the hooker valley and Mt cook! this place is awesome and its very clear why this place is a world heritage site, massive majestic mountains, glaciers abound and rivers.
a true `wilderness area` that you can drive in to
following the track from the carpark takes you through morraines from the tasman glacier, pools of ice cold glacial water. the water here is very murky with `rock flour` but some distance away the famous emarald colour waters await in lake puakaki (?)
the hooker valley, the path way to mt cook and glacier. an easy 30min walk takes you quickly to the back country. as you turn the corner Mt Cook is waiting for your first glimpse. although the clouds were moving quickly they soon thickend and shrouded the summit, although glimpses pass by.
