I'm usually a city shooter but had the opportunity to visit Mt Rainer National Park recently. What an awesome place! Unfortunately the mountain rarely peaked through the fog in the 3 days I was there; but there still was beauty everywhere!

What do you think? C & C definitely welcome.

the black and white is very good. my favorite here.

Mt rainer shot, nothing seems to be in focus?

the first refelecton has too much on the lake of no interest, crop it so you keep the reflection but loose the empty space, also there sare some distracting twigs that need cloning out.

as said number three is very impresive with excellent detail through out,

oh, and welcome to thos neck of the woods,

simon

#1 very good light here, but need a good composition.

#2 looks way tooo soft and not sure about the colors here, like the composition

#3 ... really like the light and the tones. what i dont get is the scale of it, but
dosent matter.

well done

again the new rainer shot is still out of focus, you need to look in to that!
the last yet again is superb. just clone out that little twig again. even though they are small they are things that draw peoples eyes away from the subject, same with the dust problems

looks like I need to watch my focal point and probably need to stop down a bit further...thank you both, Simon and Ashish

Looks like someone needs to clean their sensor

You show potential , it takes courage to post and ask for C&C so I applaud you for that. Another thing that hasn't been pointed out yet is to clone out the dust spots that are on some pictures. It's the little things that make or break a shot and I'm still learning that the tiniest little detail can make a potentially great image flop! Welcome and keep up the posting.

Great potential...you can get away with f22 but just watch the focus points.

Yes definitely clean the sensor or clone the dust out...nothing like stopped down to f22 to bring on the specks...

Last time i went to Reflection Lake i went early which helps with the light...might bring a polarizer too. What lens did you have on the 5D?

This shot is far from perfect but serves to illustrate the early morning advantage and that you dont need to be stopped down to oblivion....exif below

Canon EOS 5D | Date: 8/14/08 6:05 AM | ISO: 100 | Exp. Time: 1/6s | Aperture: 11.0 | Focal Length: 17.0mm (17-40L)

mike,

I actually got up before crack of dawn, but the fog was horrible...the only time I was lucky enough to see the mountain was at 9 AM, which the lighting was a bit harsh. I used the Canon 24-105 L...no filters...bet a polarizer would have at least helped a bit. Had to focus on the waterfalls on this trip.

Wow thats one messy sensor
I love the flowing water #3 and #5. The b/w-conversion works really good for me.

#2 looks like f/22 is heavily impacting on IQ or you forgot to sharpen the RAW files (assuming you use RAW)

Ken,

Yeah I agree about the polarizer. I had one but I didnt have a GND; Fortunately Lightroom 2.0 fixes that pretty well. I also pretty much shot my 4gb card full of raw just to make sure i had something that would turn out It was a 2hr drive after all.

24-105 will do...its not like you need a fast low light prime

yeah Simon, I put up the unsharpened (and uncloned) version of the files. Could you explain more about what you mean by f22 effecting IQ?

difraction, google should confuse you! stay around f11-16 for the best quality for landscapes or f8 for genral shooting.
