p.1 #1 · More Scottish fall colours

On Saturday I, along with a few buddies, headed up to Glen Lyon in Perthshire to do some hiking. It's a beautiful location, especially at this time of year. The light turned out to be a bit flat with a thin layer of high cloud "appearing" immediately after sunrise. I still think the images are worthy of posting, so here goes:

From the "highway" in Glen Lyon:

Looking towards the hills:

Blown sky but the colours are still nice:

Shame for the uncooperative skies, but the colors are beautiful. 3 and 4 are the ones i like most.

Nice job David. Be nice to take a good sky around with you. Once you tilt the lens down a bit the place isn't as bleak as one would believe. Great colors.

Hello David,

Nothing to complain about with these, particularly the fine, Fall color. Thanks for sharing the hike.

Great colours indeed. I love the first, just wish there a bit more road and all of the tree trunks of the two tree on the right.

The fourth shot is my favorite, The colors and lines in this make a lovely photograph.

the first could of been real nice, with as ute said alittle more rd and tree.

for me though, there seems to be some obvious PP work, ok trying to rectify the skys but overly done imho, especialy #2,3, sorry.

good top get out though, havent done any autumn work this year sofar, and my time is running out

Hi David - nice set. Its a beautiful beautiful place - I was there a couple of weeks ago too but haven't gotten around to processing images yet. I have an almost identical one of 'the head of the glen' but in slightly better weather. I really like the one of Loch an Daimh as when I was there the wind was up which killed the reflections. Definitely a place to keep going back too (especially the little tea shop near the start of the glen). Cheers. Paul

Really nice fall colours David. I like the 1st image as well. The twisted dark limbs against the wonderful fall colours on this image is stunning.

Beauties All! The first is very special. Superb tonal range within the fall colors themselves. Great work.

Best,

Thanks Simon and all for your comments
No worries with your thoughts on my PP work Simon. I did do a bit of work on #2 lifting the foreground and recovering the sky and I agree it has left the final image looking a tad "strange". Funnily enough I didn't process #3 at all. The sky was beyond recovery here so I left it.
The comments regarding more road in #1 make me smile a little - when I composed the shot I intentionally included very little of the road thinking this would accentuate the foliage detail and colours. I guess I thought wrong . This is what I like about this place - honest, helpful, constructive, respectful comments
Thanks again, David

Excellent pics David. When we were in the Dolomites in September, a couple from Aberdeen told us we have to come to Scotland to go hiking. Your photos certainly confirm that.

Beautiful shots David. I don't mean to be critical at all but I played with the crop on the second one a little. Hope you don't mind. I like it better in a pano mode without most of the foreground. The first kinda left me hankerin for a view of more on the bottem side.

Colors are great and sharpened to perfection on my monitor.

The reflection in the fourth is superb...clear colors, with a fine smudged look to it. Hope you found some of Martin's single malt of your own! Dave
