!-Enjoy.

Crits and comments? Yes, Please!

BTW, this camera measures subject distance from the "film" plane. Err.. sensor plane?

The camera I'm using is a memento I'm keeping from a very ambitious commercial project I did some 5 years ago or more.

It's a Konica/Minolta DiMAGE A2 This image is copyrighted by the owner

A bridge camera with a fairly high quality non-interchangeable lens and a tiny little 2/3-inch interlaced primary-color 8.3mp CCD sensor. I'm using it after selling my D2X system (7 or 8 months ago) while I wait for the new model leap-frogging from all the various contenders to settle down a bit so I can decide what to get.

The lens is a 28-200mm f/2.8/3.2 macro zoom apochromatic design consisting of 16 elements in 13 groups, including two AD (anomalous dispersion) glass elements and two aspheric surfaces. It's called the "GT" and is welded on front of the camera.

I think (maybe) some the look of over-sharpened-ness is due to the tiny little sensor.

Love #1 and #3 but agree with above on some being slightly oversharpened.

Eheyhey!! That's the technique pioneered by John Gaeta in a certain, very popular, sci-fi blockbuster.

What project did you use it on?

Oh great series btw. Looks like there's some bluish colour cast in the 6th image? forgot to change the WB?

Ah... yeah #3 is processed to death and I thought for sure no one could tell on #6 I processed these a bit ago and before i put them up I though... Ya know... I should hit #6 really hard - it needs it - no one will notice.. (famous last words ). So I did a 350% at 0.4 pixels .

Yep.. that's what that's from! I stole the technique from them I can't say who for or specifically what for but it was a series of TV commercials with yellow stuff in it. I see them plastered all over you-tube too.

BTW, I used A2 cameras like in the pic above, for mine.

Oh c'mon... it's been half a decade... and surely the NDA doesn't cover the name of the product or the client since you might want or need to use it for your own portfolio.

How about just posting the youtube link?

I'm curious, did you do a 180º setup with all those cameras? I'd hate to be the one cleaning up the plates.

Sorry bro... No can do. There's some stuff still happening and I'm no longer in the production part of the project. So I would pulling a "Steven Jobs" and a ship that leaks from the top is a funny thing indeed. But I can tell you that it's not The Matrix which is obviously where the technique was 1st used in production.

And I used all kinds of shapes, over 200º, "S" shapes, various ramps and curves, and additionally rented it out twice where my guys handled tech and setup under different direction.

No problem! Yes I started a CG post production house in the early 80's here in Japan. It's grown and diversified since but still the primary focus is CG. I have my fingers in lots of pies but mostly I work in the film and television industry. Lots and lots of secrets.

We use whichever app BTW, LightWave 3D and the Video Toaster is what I started with and is still a favorite. I have worked on effects for "blockbuster" films but The Matrix isn't one of them unfortunately.

I don't wanna say what films or TV work though because I don't want to mix reputations. My still photography still sucks pretty bad if you know what I mean and so far it's just for fun mostly. So I'm here hiding out as "Bifurcator".

Thanks Mich!

I'm never telling what #14 is. Ever! #1 is rice though.
Thanks for the comments!

And I just realized I haven't said thank you to any of the other people who commented either.

So thank you Cheeky, LordV, Dalantech, nObO, and Mich!
I very much appreciate the time taken to comment on these!

BTW,
Looking at them fresh again today I can see the oversharpening some of you mentioned. Black lines.

Thanks lextalionis!

# 3 and #6 were taken in the same part of the forest/jungle. And the light at the time (clouds + leaf filter) looked really kewl - yeah, like someone turned on a black-light.

My favourite in the first one, with the sixth very close second. As a biologist, I'm struggling to even begin to identify the latter!

Thanks e6!

That's OK, I don't know many botanical names either. When I was kid and the Earth was young I learned hundreds and hundreds of latin and common names of roses with my Grandfather who was a pretty famous horticulturist in the world of roses in his golden years. None of these are roses though.
