p.2 #1 · Most photogenic city in the world?

From a U.S. and personal standpoint (I've never been broad) but Seattle is a beautiful city to photograph. San Francisco is also beautiful, too. I would hate to be the one to have to decide where to go though. Best of luck, Derek!

Actually, I think I'll also use this as a chance to ask about US cities as well.

Which US city or cities have the most unique character? I have three I want to visit, NYC, Washington and Las Vegas. Any other?

I believe that Washington has the most unique and endless possibilities, but in the US I would also recommend Seattle, San Francisco, Miami, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Houston, Nashville, well you get my point -- the US like Washington DC has endless photo opportunities. So start with DC, then work your way out, if you can break away from DC. Good Luck, Derek

Krakow is a great photo city. Plus the surrounding countryside. Medieval walled city, huge city center plaza, great buildings that survived bombing in both wars, student atmosphere, castles and palaces, riverfront, mountains and parks...

if you make it to vegas, you may want to venture out of the crowd areas. the desert parks are close and scenic. hoover dam is close too.

as for the city, don't miss the old downtown area, vs the new casinos..

Rome immediately comes to mind as the city with the most photographic possibilities in Europe. A lot of ruins, monuments, neighborhoods, museums, and natural wonders. Moscow or Prague might work for the Eastern bloc. I would say New York or Wash DC would be the choice for me in America.

I found Venice to be a little bit too small -- once you shoot one canal you pretty much shoot them all. I would definitely not pick Houston, Seattle, Pittsburgh or Nashville on my list of top American cities, but to each his own -- perhaps if I had to choose 5 in America they would be New York, DC, Chicago, Denver and Boston.

I would say Hong Kong and Shanghai.... but it really depends what you like. Do you like something more old, ancient or modern?

You want to take like cityscapes or street photos? Some places that cannot go wrong, in no particular order:

* Tokyo (or any other major Japanese city)
* Venice
* Prague
* Rome
* Paris
* Stockholm (but don't bother during winter...)

It also depends when you want to go. Europe (at least northern parts) is cold and greyish now. Come back in the spring instead.

The old town in Riga is very beautiful indeed, as is Valetta on Malta. You can do a day trip from Sicily to Malta if you end up in southern Italy. Likewise Riga is easy to reach from any of the cities in the region.
I honestly don't think 9 days is enough to be honest!

Denver is spectacular this time of year...hell, any time of year. Can't beat the eastern slope of the Rockies or even Pike's Peak. (dress warm).

I can't believe noone has mentioned Charleston SC. We were just there for a day, but I could have spent weeks. Old architecture, ships and boats, old military bases, coast lines, beautiful city, locals, you name it, they have it.

Having been to Charleston many, many, many times I can say for certain that while it is a beautiful city appropriate for a weekend trip, I don't think I could shoot there for weeks. I would probably choose New Orleans over Charleston as they share a lot of similarities.

I had a 4 year old with me. So everything takes a lot longer. Everything I take pictures of, he has to take pictures of. Then his (grandma's) p&s isn't enough, so he then has to take one with my 20D.

New York City. (summer/early fall/Spring)

But for something completely different in November....(or when it is cold in Northern hemi).. ..

Go to the warmer latitudes.

Angkor Wat.

Or

Calcutta or Mumbai (Bombay).

Or

Cairo.

Sydney Australia is pretty cool. Except most cities in Australia the lattitude means you only have about 10 seconds of shooting light! It's not that bad but we are all envious of those who live above 45 degrees lat. (Most of the rest of the world!)

I haven't been to Venice but from what I have seen and heard from fellow photographers...amazing.
