Any small village in the USA. While they may appear to be the same, get out of your car, walk around, and talk to people. I feel some of my best photography has been to these places that probably most of us have not seen.
I have grandiose dreams of traveling to Germany's black forest and stopping where ever I need to eat or rest.
But, I don't have the cash flow to do that now, so I have to make the best of what I can.
And if I want to see pictures of Venice, Paris, St. Petersburg, there are definitely no shortage of them on the interwebz.
If you want a beautiful city/town, why not try New Zealand? Christchurch is very beautiful with all the flowers and old cathedrals. Queenstown is equally photogenic with its lake, specially in winter time. You can even go to the real Hobbit town set they used in Lord of the Ring movie. It really is Middle Earth.
Hi,
my favorite city is Havana, Cuba and I've seen a lot. Stay in a casa particular and walk around. There are countless opportunities, the city is safe and people like to cooperate. Many like the attention of being photographed. Stay in a casa particular and you need maybe 500$ in 9 days. On my homepage www.christofabt.de there are lots of pictures.
Well it depends on your preferences... I love small towns where you can leave all the trouble behind.
If you like that kind of "city" you should go with Patrick's advice and visit Turkey and/or the islands there.
My favorite town was Symi (greek island few miles from the turkish coast).
If you get off the trails there are many wonderful things to discover but probably too much for 9 days.
From a U.S. and personal standpoint (I've never been broad) but Seattle is a beautiful city to photograph. San Francisco is also beautiful, too. I would hate to be the one to have to decide where to go though. Best of luck, Derek!

Actually, I think I'll also use this as a chance to ask about US cities as well.
Which US city or cities have the most unique character? I have three I want to visit, NYC, Washington and Las Vegas. Any other?
I believe that Washington has the most unique and endless possibilities, but in the US I would also recommend Seattle, San Francisco, Miami, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Houston, Nashville, well you get my point -- the US like Washington DC has endless photo opportunities. So start with DC, then work your way out, if you can break away from DC. Good Luck, Derek
Krakow is a great photo city. Plus the surrounding countryside. Medieval walled city, huge city center plaza, great buildings that survived bombing in both wars, student atmosphere, castles and palaces, riverfront, mountains and parks...
Rome immediately comes to mind as the city with the most photographic possibilities in Europe. A lot of ruins, monuments, neighborhoods, museums, and natural wonders. Moscow or Prague might work for the Eastern bloc. I would say New York or Wash DC would be the choice for me in America.
I found Venice to be a little bit too small -- once you shoot one canal you pretty much shoot them all. I would definitely not pick Houston, Seattle, Pittsburgh or Nashville on my list of top American cities, but to each his own -- perhaps if I had to choose 5 in America they would be New York, DC, Chicago, Denver and Boston.
The old town in Riga is very beautiful indeed, as is Valetta on Malta. You can do a day trip from Sicily to Malta if you end up in southern Italy. Likewise Riga is easy to reach from any of the cities in the region.
I honestly don't think 9 days is enough to be honest!
