p.1 #1 · Cloudless MV Evening

In the past I've been shut out from the ONLY photo location for certain shots so this time we arrived an hour and a half before "prime time" and set up the tripod and a couple of folding chairs. Exactly 1 hour and 15 minutes later the tour busses arrived and we were inundated with lookie lous and P&S cameras - but I had THE spot.
Hope you like the results.

Very cool shot. As you predicted Mitten on Mitten at the appropriate day. Excellent comp, and inspired way to use "the Juniper".

Perfect! The framing, the shadows, the light - all comes together beautifully!

Outstanding job, Henry! Beautiful compo.

Did you get the names and addresses of the p&s crowd? They might want to see what good photography can look like.

Hey Henry,

Well done! There is no one who can calculate times of shadows, moon rises, etc. like you do!

Not only the perfect location, but the perfect time of year for the Mitten shadow to fall as it does. I'm sure this didn't happen by accident. Beautiful light and an amazing old Juniper.
Altogether a stunning shot.

Very well planned and executed. I love it.

Not a nit, just a wonder -- slight cropping to put it into a pano format would make it fit, say, over a davenport.

Yes, you were certainly in "the spot". Great framing and colors, well worth the wait. So is it really like that in Monument Valley Henry? That you have to fight off tour busses of people? I'd understood that it was isolated enough that you're pretty much alone out there.... thanks for the heads-up.

great colours in that sunset.

I find a big stick keeps the P&S crowd a bay

The results of your patience are there to see Henry - great work. The classic shadow on mitten plus a fab composition to enhance the scene. It's a money shot in my opinion.

great timing on the shot. I might suggest a slight crop of the OOF foreground.

dont want to steal your post, but I couldn't have been too far from where you were. do you happen to remember seeing a young guy running around with a 70-200mm and a silver truck? hahaha.. that would have been me.

Nicely timed shot, a classic. I would suggest a tighter crop, however, as there's a lot of empty sky and a busy foreground. With a simple crop you could get a clean bottom right corner, which I think would make the image even stronger. A keeper for sure

Henry, I'm surprised that no one told you to "Take a shot then move so the rest of us can get a shot". I've had it happen to me but when you've waited a considerable amount of time (in my case 4 hours ) for an evolving shot, only a bulldozer or dynamite will get me to move.

Hi Don,
There was 1 or 2 minute window when the shadow crossed the middle of the east mitten as the light was disappearing. I wasn't about to move!

I see many photogs in my travels and wish I knew if any were regulars on this board. I know quite few personally and would love to meet more of you.

Luckily those buses leave as quickly as they come. Very special shot Henry! A slight crop would be a slight improvement..
