The more you will use it, the more you will appreciate it. You will discover lot of small things that are just better, right place, etc and discover it is a production reliable tool. Not to say a 5D is a toy, but just another world. And in a few months you won't want to use anything else !
Agreed - I use both for weddings and will always go for the 1dsII in preference if possible.
Oh, I hate the weight of my 1Ds2. When you send the camera to service, you would get more respects with 1Ds2 than with 5D2.
Joking aside, here is my take. Once you got a good shot, 5D2 will outperform 1Ds2 easily in IQ. In controlled environments like studios, I would pick 5D2 with no hesitation. 1Ds2 may help you to get the shot in the first place. But it is very intangible value difficult to justify.
The weather seal or the 45-AF points or 2 media slots etc, are overly hyped. When I did the survey last time on FM, most of the 1D body users were using only the center AF point. AI servo may be something that Bird hunters cannot live without. I'm not one of them.
This is my hobby, and it turned out be an expensive hobby after all.
I think I'll most likely buy/switch to 5DKII later on. But if I don't try 1ds MKII now, I don't think I'll ever will.
And, I didn't want to end my hobby without trying the modern classic camera.
Now, I think I may really have to say goodbye to my mirror shaved 5D.
It is a very nice camera, and it initiated me into manual focusing, which I think is very attractive side of photography.
I've been using the continuous AF servo mode on my 5D for my son's soccer games with great success. I try to compose loosely with the person who I want in focus in the center of the frame. I then crop for composition in post. This approach will work even better with the 5D II, given that I'll have more pixels to crop.
My in pin sharp focus percentage is about 80%, for outdoor 5-6 year old soccer games using the 70-200mm f4IS, with and without the 1.4 teleconverter.

I currently use grip with my 5D, so the weight of 1Ds MKII is not a critical issue.
I've probably read most of the reviews on web, and like someone said in his review, It'll be my privilege to use the 1Ds series camera.
I am curious to see how it works for you. I have a 1DMK2 and a 5D, and more often than not the 1D stays home because of the size, weight, etc. Great for action, but for just carrying around it is too much.
I tried a 1DSMK3 and found the same issue. Canon really needs to make a 3D. In the meantime I will get a 5DMK2.

With all due respect Pondria. I do not buy this declaration. In fact, I would be willing to bet that with the same exposure you probably could not tell the difference. Why you ask. Because since the last few years they are all so damn good from an IQ perspective. Features i.e live view, bigger LCDs, longer battery life, maybe a little better high ISO performance, etc. are now the selling point. Not IQ.
Sustained...
OK, we've not defined what IQ is. Thus, we should not talk about IQ. Remove what I said from the record. The jury is instructed not to consider it.

OK. I long suspected it but know I know for sure. You got a law degree from one of those matchbook cover law schools didn't you? I noticed that you have been slinging the "law lingo" around a lot lately

Do you use grip with your 5D?
I do, and I heard the weight of 1DsII isn't that much different from 5D+grip.
Anyway, I'll get the camera probably tomorrow, and I'll try to update how I think.
If, in future, I feel that I do not need to buy 5DII, I'll probably buy 1DMKII (or N) for my second camera.
While on the subject, is it worth to pay close to $1000 more for the 1DIIN over IDII?
Besides the size of LCD screen, will I find justification for choosing MKIIN?
That's a lot of money difference for a used ones....

IQ is difficult to discuss without the definition. Let's not use the term IQ.
Here is my thought on the 5D2 vs 1Ds2.
5D2 has newer generation sensor with more pixels and less noise. Or, to put it just simply, 5D2 has better sensor than 1Ds2. It also has anti-dust measures. As long as you somehow capture the scene on the sensor with good focus and good exposure, 5D2 should produce more detailed, less noisy, less dust-contaminated picture. 1Ds2 will be better in capturing more scenes on the sensor.

So, basically IdsMKII is better in AF, and build.
Other than that, 5DII all the way...right?
Again, if 5DMKII had a better mirror box, I'd have waited because I have invested in many manual lenses.
By using just bought 1Ds MKII, the most missed performance on 5DII would be high ISO performance.
Well...I'll find out soon whether that will be the cause for another camera switch....
