p.2 #1 · Another bad blow to Canon

Ben, do we really need this type of thread here I shoot both disciplines but come over here (Nikon Forum) to get away from this crap...
or so I thought.

+1!
It is obvious that this is meant as a stab at Canon, period, rather than an informative or constructive statement and, hey, I am all for some interesting debate between brands too, but...according to posts here CANON only makes glorified copiers
Neither NIKON nor CANON have any killers anymore! And I am sure a competent photographer will be able to get images as well wether they use a CANON or a NIKON or whatever. Gone are the days of market supremacy.

+1 and I do not even shoot Canon. It seems this belongs on the Canon forum too as there is nothing in the OP's original message that has to do with Nikon.

Also, one report means nothing. For example: My 1st D70s had issues 3 weeks into ownership but my 2nd D70s has been working like a charm for 4 years now.

I am not defending Canon but that situation can happen to you with a Nikon camera or with any other camera for that matter. That's the reason they have a professional service center. If you switch system (including all lenses) each time your camera fails you, it could be really expensive but whatever floats your boat .

My Mark III busted on me and cannot autofocus, my SB-800's hot shoe flopped off, my 24-70 is soft beyond soft, my 70-200mm IS motor is going, my Canon 20Ds and 30Ds had Errs and buffer issues, an 85mm busted and wouldn't AF... want me to keep going? I take great care of all my equipment and all these issues were purely the equipment... Also, I am a CPS member and they couldn't get me a loaner Mark III or anything until 7-10 business days! Horrible support from them. It is pretty bad when you get a camera and then they follow your registration with a letter with a $100 repair voucher with it! Like they know it will fail on you soon so here is a free $100 to make it hurt less.

I switched to Canon back in 2006 from Nikon where I had no issues. I made the switch because Canon has more cameras out, more stuff in stock regularly, faster lenses, cmos sensors in all cameras and full frame sensors while Nikon was still at the D200 and D2x stages with nothing in stock. As a business decision, I wanted to make sure stuf would be in stock if I needed it immediately.

I did take a loss of about $1500 to go back to Nikon but from a busienss stand point, I need to go with what is reliable. I have help at a local camera store that only stocks Nikon which I hit up again and got things a tiny bit cheaper at least.

I am not a back and forth switcher with every camera that comes out. I am ticked at Canon and how they handled all this stuff so they are on my S* list

I find it kind of humerous all the back biting back and forth between brand loyalists. I had Canon since the D30 with multiple bodies right up to a 1D until I got smitten with a D200. I had a huge investment with Canon lenses prior to that switch, and frankly miss some of those lenses which don't translate to the Nikon lineup. However, I can say one thing with confidence. I DO feel that ergonmically the Nikon bodies are designed for a photographer in mind regarding access and feel. Not that that would keep me from ever owning another Canon body, it just hasn't happened.

I went with a D300 when I transitioned from a brief move to Olympus over a year ago. I enjoyed the quantum leap forward that made. I've now moved on to the D700 and am thrilled not only with it's ergonomic layout but the low noise I can count on. I'm sure the new 5DMKII will be a huge hit while they pick up the pieces from their 1DMKIII debacle. I suspect they'll get that right next time around...they can't afford not to. But I still admire their ability to produce a superbly competent image. I could take great images from either camera frankly. I still maintain more often than not its the person behind the tool....NOT the tool that most effects the image quality

No doubt about that - I have some images that I took with my Canon equipment that are great - the person makes a HUGE diff, BUT I got to the point I couldn't trust my Canon equipment to deliver the picture. You have to have confidence in your equipment, and that was lost with Canon for me.

Sorry, don't mean to go OT BUT - Do you any more info on this? One time in Yellowstone a couple weeks ago my D300 had a full battery but then would flash that it was dead. Turn it off and on it's good again till I pressed the shutter. Popping out the battery fixed it, but I didn't know it was an known bug.

If this happens to you, remove the lens and clean the contacts a little. Usually just removing and reseating can fix the entire problem. Odd, but true... seen it 3 times on my D200, drove me nuts until I figured it out.

I have to say I've never had the DBS on ANY body yet. I was just in Yellowstone last weekend IN the rain and no issues whatsoever. With ANY lens. But then I'm pretty anal about keeping my gear clean and dust free, so maybe that helps. Frankly as much as this whole DBS debacle has made the news, I don't think I could count a dozen cases of it between 3 different forums, and considering the thousands now owned out there of the D200, 300's and 700's that ain't that many. I like to bless my cameras when I get them. Maybe that's a good idea

One of the companies had 4 out of 6 original D70 bodies fail within a year or so.
