p.1 #1 · FedEx Economy & UPS Basic | |
These are the two lowest-cost options vendors can use to ship merchandise to customers. In both cases, the carrier (FedEx or UPS) delivers it to the local post office for final delivery. This might work for most people, but some towns have their carrier delivery from a neighboring post office.
Case 1. According to the tracing information, the package was delivered to (based on the address) my local post office at 1:19 pm. Turns out because it had a street address and not a post office box number, it was dropped off at a post office ten miles away. Fortunately, one of the sorting clerks was on the ball and sent it to my post office to be held for me to call for it today. The vendor had not warned me that it the package would be given to the USPS for final delivery. It took me several hours to locate the "delivered" package! Even UPS did not know it was in Woodsville, not Bath as their delivery record stated.
Case 2. When requesting delivery information, the vendor (on its on-line screen) asked (a) if the delivery address was a post office box (b) if there was local delivery service to the street address by the post office. Based on my answers (yes to (a) and no to (b), I was given a choice of FedEx Economy to my post office or FedEx standard to my house (a dollar or two more expensive). This vendor was very clear that if I didn't opt for a better class of service the package would be given to the USPS. At least this time, it will have a post office box number on the label and will be left at my local post office
