p.1 #1 · ::Kelly+Ryan::E-sesh freshness::

I had the privilege to shoot this fabulous couple on Friday at several locations in my area (Stockton, CA). Huge props to the folks at the new Sheraton and the owners of Oak Farm Vineyards for letting us do our thing. These two had such an awesome connection and it totally shows. I just tried to let them be themselves and I think it shows. They totally look like something out of J.Crew to me, super rad! It was a drab, overcast sky so I felt a little hampered, but we make do. Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to view and critique this set. You folks rock and I can't wait to hang out with some of you in Berkeley!
Check out the blog for some more.
Sorry dudes, I'm trying out flickr instead of photobucket. I hope it works.

if i can be critical - 5 doesnt work for me because her expression is a little constipated and 10 looks like siamese twins.

but who are we kidding... these are killer.

scott, A-game!

a great all around set-i'm really diggin' on 5, 7, and 12

shot 5-love the composition-my assumption of this whole set is that it's natural light-beautiful

shot 7-very unique-just enough of the truck to give this a vintage feel-have you tried any textures on this shot? i'd be curious to see some alternate processing on it

shot 12-i think my favorite of the set-amazing clean shot-love the colors and pose of this one-couldn't really ask for a better lighting pattern on them (esp. him)-i really don't care that his toe is chopped off, either-stellar image IMHO

These are really good man. But most importantly, it looks like you were having way too much fun during this session. Now stop playing and get back to work

Scott, my man, these are quite the eye treat! Love your processing, captures are very natural. I need to take some notes from the ambient light shooters, sometimes I think I have a strobe coming out my ear, just gotta use it.

Very natural emotions and all around superb stuff. The only one that made (makes) me stop and wonder what I'm looking at is #8. I'm confused what the whole effect is going on here.

nm, got it, looks like the side mirror. Took a second. I feel like a slowmo.

I LOVE #13, but the black bar on the left bothers me. its such a natural progression of bright light from the right, down to a smooth gradient on the right. That black wall breaks the light transition for me.

Not feeling 5, 8, or 10. While 5 and 10 are strong from an artistic point of view, I don't feel like they match the "mood" than an engagement shoot should have. They seem almost lonely. 8 doesn't work for me at all. With those three out of the way, the rest are very good.

<edit> had a couple people ask sooooo: 5D with combo of 50 1.2 and 70-200 2.8 IS.
k: thanks for the props. i don't think she was constipated, more just trying to fight back her natural smile.

daniel: i really appreciate the compliments and considering your work it carries much weight. i'll probably play around with 7 a lil more, but i'm trying to simplify things right now.

jacob: thanks man, but you've got to check out some of the other members' stuff on here.

jason: i will admit, my face was hurting from laughing and smiling so much.

spencer: you're too kind. #2 actually had one 580 at fp to the right. I have a bunch more from this set and some others that I used this and the video light set-up on. natural light is so underrated. oh yeah, on #8. that shot was for me, they'll probably never make a 30x40 out of it, but it defines the reaches of my creativity. yes, it is a crusty side-view mirror. to all of you who knock it because it is different, think for a moment, then type.

sergio: jea!

sam: thanks, i'm going to try and step it up when I go to NYC next week! We'll see.

chris: you're awesome. thanks for the holga actions, i haven't tried 'em out yet but i will.

jclay: dude, neg space is where its at. there is so much you can do with it and i think the enormity of it brings you that much closer to the subject. it has to be done right though.

12 is my favorite. Some of your best work posted here. It's nice and trendy

To answer your flickr question: upload the size you want to display on FM to flickr. I usually use 750 or 800px to a side. Then, when you are adding the links to your post, use the "all sizes" then "original" links in flickr to get the exact url of the "full size" image on flickr.

Lightroom is great for ripping some JPEGs to a specific size. There is also a neat plugin for Lightroom that lets you load directly to Flickr straight from LR. I believe it's called Flickr Uploadr
