Thank you, Rich. I'm still learning to shoot this lens but it seems to be coming along a little better each time I take it out. Liking it more and more. Planned on replacing my 70-300 VR with it but I just can't seem to part with the newer zoom and its wonderful portability. Seems my kit will just have to have some overlap!.

He's for real, Eric! Just out of view was a small beverage cooler that was filled with cans but I don't know if they were dead soldiers or just more full containers. About a half mile further into the woods, I discovered a manmade 'hut' all thatched out with several individuals in residency. They appeared to be squatters and I imagine the guy I photographed drew the short straw to make the beer run. Little did they know he was sampling the goods and sleeping it off just upwind of the encampment!

That squirrel was the most cooperative tree rat I've ever come across. He couldn't get enough of the lens and just kept on posing!

Neat images Gaylon! I was about to put my 80-400 for sale, now you make me pause. I too have overlap, decisions, decisions...

Nice shots with a much maligned lens. More people would be buying this lens if they REALLY knew what it's capable of.

Thank you. I'm a Libra and you know how indecisive we can be!

Thanks Gerald and I agree. It does have limitations but all super-zooms do. I'm still learning the lens and I'll definitely be keeping it. The Nikkor really has surpassed my expectations once I became more familiar with it. I know some folks are doing pretty well with the new Sigma OS zooms but the two I tried didn't pan out for me. The Nikkor worked out much better for me right from day one.

Thank you - it's an easy lens to love, eh?! I didn't think I'd ever find a walkaround zoom that I would like better than my 70-300 VR but the 80-400 just may take the top position in my kit!

Best thing about it is that it's pretty compact and light weight, too! None of other options is as small and light. Even if they come out with a new AF-S version of this lens, it will most likely not be this compact.

Yup, it's a sweet sized package for sure.

I imagine the next version of this lens will also be rather more costly than the current lens. I lucked out with a very clean second hand copy and I'm only in it for $995 USD. Just scored a 500D from an FM member to fit the zoomer and I can't wait to play with that combo

nice shots. Maybe it's my screen but i think the WB is a bit to cool on the first two. The last one is my favorite. I have no idea what happened with the creature in #5... strange

Thank you, Raymond.

I believe your screen is just fine I've now warmed them up a bit, I'm usually too far to the warm side!

Say hello to Carlos for me!
