p.1 #1 · interesting subject, flawed photographer

I think i need to play with the diopter setting or something because my keeper rate is just abysmal. Nonetheless there are some interesting creatures/situations that I thought it might be worth the post anyway:

this is an ex wasp. Only getting tangled in a spider web kept it off the ground.

And here is an ex-moth. This one was lying in front of a window, obviously trapped by non-caring humans (albeit unintentionall)

same subject, slightly different angle:

This wasp was moving glacially but pollen was not hard to find

This is a really interesting fly. he wanted to stay low to the ground:

OK, this is a bit oof but this is a jumper in mid air as he gets freaked by the preflash. it's interesting how they only tend to do this after the first flash like, "oh, I'm not dead? I will ignore that from now on". While others will start every time it goes off.

Thanks for looking. A bit down on my stuff lately, but comments are welcome anyway.

nice shots, dont worry about your keeper rate too much, I am always deleting shots I am not happy with and I know a lot of other shooters do the same, you are not on your own

thx michael.

If the keepers were better it would bother me less. I am really mad about the fly in #5 (second to last) because it was really interesting and by far the best pic was still not overly sharp. Maybe things ebb and flow tho?

Tim I would not be so hard on myself if I was you think about it this way if you were shooting film maybe you keeper rate would be lower and cost of film would make you pull your hair out

also I get one shot out of 10 to 15 to be a keeper and some days worse yet so just keep shooting........ more shots means more keepers

I had a similar fly and took 12 shots and none came out so shoot more keep more is my moto

LOve the bee shot, Low keeper rates in macro are the norm -nothing is quite so exacting on focus. Suspect it's not a dioptre problem - I played with this recently as I do have fairly extreme dioptre settings on my cameras. A mis calibrated one does not seem to cause a mis focus it just means you never see a clear image in the viewfinder (which does not help with focus).
