I see just now on Amazon that I can pre-order Photoshop CS4 PC Upgrade for about £180, however, I also see I can buy via another site the CS3 upgrade for £120 (I have CS2).
Is it worth my time ordering the CS3 upgrading and hoping it falls within the Free of Charge Upgrade period for CS4 (I've done a search and cannot find anything that gives dates for this just yet)?
But they often shaft us in the UK so you can't be sure if that will apply here. (as they gave me a free copy of Lightroom version 2.0 that is a bit mean )

I upgraded to CS2 after the CS3 announcement, and qualified for a free CS3 upgrade. I had a better-than-expected experience with Adobe in the matter. You have to ask to be enrolled, it isn't automatic, and you might need to phone them one more time to bug them to send it to you, but after that it was all smooth for me (and I'm in Canada).

Let me get this right. I have the full version of PS 7. This has been upgraded to PS CS2 and now to CS3. Will I be able to upgrade to CS4 as well or do I need a full version CS, CS2 or CS3 to do the upgrade? What I am getting at, is will my original PS 7 be the last full version I need or will I eventually have to buy another full version?

I upgraded my CS2 to CS2.3 within the "post announce" period in 2007 ... and got a free upgrade to CS3
I tried it again by upgraded my CS3 to CS3.3 on 24 September this year ... but Adobe have knocked me back this time
Their support quote : As per our conversation, you are not eligible for Free Upgrade to CS4 because you only purchase for an upgrade and not for a Full version of CS3.3. Also the date you purchase your 3.0 Design Premium did not reached the starting eligibility period for CS4.

Sucks, but that must be an Australian thing, they might have different policies in different countries. AFAIK, there were no "CS2.3" or "CS3.3" versions in the US. And the Adobe blog linked above clearly states that they will upgrade from as far back as PS 7 to CS3, and buying now qualifies for free upgrade to CS4.

I just bought a new imac lastnight at the mac store and got mt student discount plus the 300 off special if you buy a mac and Photoshop at the same time. They went ahead and gave me CS3.3 and told me I would qualify for Cs4 upgrade when it ships at the end of the month.
(as they gave me a free copy of Lightroom version 2.0 that is a bit mean
